The senior class gathered to be recognized for their achievements throughout high school.

On a sunny Friday morning, the Class of 2016 marched up

over the years. My favorite memory was seeing everyone be surprised

when they won awards, and they hadnt known they were getting one,
Bailey Shelton said.
Among the awards were Jaguar Spirit Awards, Blue and Orange
Awards, and highest class averages awards, along with many others.
Savannah Kirk was recognized for being president of government club,
being drum major of the band, and participating in the Academic
Decathlon competition in Anchorage, Alaska. It was really satisfying
to be recognized for the things I love doing and have devoted so much
time to, and also to be recognized as someone who stands out because
of these involvements, Kirk said.
The program ended with a slide show of photographs of the seniors
from the past three years. As pictures appeared on the screen, students
remembered the little moments that had brought them all the way to
this moment. Students watched with nostalgia as the photos flashed
before them. The baby pictures, the candid shots, and the happy poses
drew tears from the crowd. The PowerPoint at the end really got to
me. I was sad to know that Im leaving all these great people behind,
Rachel Jordan said.
By 11:30, Class Day was over. The seniors dispersed in several
directions. Many headed across the parking lot surrounded by throngs
of friends and family. Others posed with their armfuls of certificates
on the steps. Still others wandered inside the building, visiting their
favorite teachers and underclassmen, reflecting on the culmination of
their high school years.

the front steps of Madison Central for the last time and congregated
in front of the main staircase. The next time they were all together was
graduation, but this day marked that it was not time to toss the caps
into the air yet. From above, the ground looked like a sea of white
dresses and button-downs punctuated by spots of khaki. Smiles dotted
their faces as they made their way through the buzzing crowd, posing
for quick pictures and hugging their friends. Laughter rang about the
commons as the seniors reminisced about their times together - and the
times they planned to have in the coming weeks. It was bittersweet:
summer and college gleamed brightly ahead, but images of pep rallies,
proms, friends, and football games still hung in their memories. I was
extremely excited because it was my last day of school, and I could
finally say that I wasnt in high school anymore, Cassia Jones-Woodard
said. But on the other hand, I was a little sad because I was leaving
my friends."
At 9:00 the Pomp and Circumstance graduation march sounded
in the gym. Seniors walked proudly to their chairs, met by the flashes
of their parents cameras. Vice-President of the senior class, Katie King,
gave the invocation, and, after many late night cram sessions and AP
exams, Class Day had finally begun.
Austin Brown immediately launched into the many scholarships
that the seniors had accrued over the year. In total, the class received
a staggering $21 million in scholarship offers. Brown also listed the
many awards and recognitions that the soon-to-be graduates had earned
