WILL INDIA BECOME A SUPERPOWER BY 2025

A superpower is a word used to describe a state with a dominant position in
international relations and is characterized by its unparalleled ability to exert
influence or project power on a global scale. This is done through the means of
both military and economic strength, as well as diplomatic and soft
powerinfluence."
Economic super power
India has enough population to make a GDP figure big enough to become a super power.
A country's GDP Per capita increases as a large number of its population moves away
from agriculture to service sector and industries. Increasing literacy rate and quality of
education will also work in India's favour.
74% of India is Literate as per 2011 census, which is less than what Netherlands had
achieved in 1750. within a generation or two India is set to achieve 90+% Literacy
With Quality of education increasing (both because of privatization and realization of
importance of education) and Globalization (which allows talent to take its place
regardless of where it comes from), Indians have started to get high paying jobs within
India and outside. Flow of capital to developing countries will also help quicken the
process of development.
Military Super Power
India has not projected its Military strength outside the subcontinent. But that does not
mean India will never do it.
Percentage wise India spends as much as USA,UK,France,Japan,Germany,Korea. When
India's GDP is bigger, its Military expenditure will naturally increase, though percentage
remains the same.
India has been an importer of weapons, with the increasing appetite for science and
technology and Govt's initiatives to Make weapons in India, in near future we can expect
India to be sufficiently self-reliant.
Diplomatic and Soft-power

India has almost always been on the right side of the history. Be it with NAM,
neutral stance during cold war, Indo-pak wars, Tibet issue, Bangladesh war, Civil
war in SriLanka, Afghan/Iraq wars, Israel-Palestine conflict.
Indian philosophy and culture are its main assets in its soft-power. Yoga, Meditation,
Hinduism, Buddhism along with Music, Films, Food and Indian diaspora have to some
extent already made India a soft-power, it is more likely to grow given that there are
going to be more Indians in influential jobs (CEOs, IT Entrepreneurs, Film

directors,Musicians, Doctors) in future.

"and remain one for even one century?"
Once you become a soft power you don't lose it, unless there are more populous
countries pushing you down. There are no countries which can accommodate more
population than India except USA. China, Russia, Canada, Australia have less Arable
land than India .India probably won't be a singular super power for centuries, but very
soon it will be big enough to put some weight in the international relations creating a
triad of super power.
