Identity in non-traditional portraiture

What is the main focus of this lesson?
Students will create sketches of artworks they will paint about their identity.

Students will create sketches that will lead to the main painting about identity.

1) Show an artistic investigation of an aspect of present day life using a contemporary practice of art and design (VA Cr.1.2.8a)

II. Before you start


Prerequisite knowledge and skills.
Assessment
(formative and summative)

Students should know how to create thumbnail sketches and 1st draft sketches with pencil.
Formative: Choosing 3 ideas that they want to do of identity. Then students will create 3
sketches of potential. Then students will choose one that they like and create one final sketch.
Summative: Will be the final project (the painting)

Teacher: Good morning class! Today is a work day!

Teacher: I want you to look at the board and go through the different requirements.
So first I want you to choose 3 out of the 6 ideas we looked at last class. Then I want you to create 4
sketches for each of the 3 ideas. Then choose one idea you like and make a good 1st sketch.

Development

Write on board:
Circle 3 ideas
12 thumbnail sketches (1 idea:4thumbnail drawings)
1 final good sketch
Okay get to work! If you have any questions, ask me. Ask each other what they think of the ideas.
Teacher walks around class giving students ideas if needed helping with scaffolding.

Teacher makes sure students are on task and halfway through the 12 thumbnail sketches.

Good job today! Put away your drawings in your cubbies and please clean up after yourselves!
