Pancakes for breakfast (adapted from the book by Tommie dePaola)
It was a cold, snowy morning. Nana woke up. She thought: What can I have for breakfast? I think I would
like to have pancakes!
She decided to cook them. First, she opened her recipe book. Then she read a pancakes recipe. She got a
bowl, flour and sugar, but she found out that there were no eggs.
She got some eggs, but she found out that there was no milk. So she went to the barn and milked a cow.
When she got the milk, she poured it into a jar. She sifted milk, eggs, and flour into a bowl. Then she mixed
everything with a large spoon until the batter turned lumpy.
After that, she found out that there was no maple syrup. She went to the neighbor and bought some.
When she returned, she saw the kitchen! It was a mess! Her dog and cat had played and eaten most of
the ingredients. She thought, Now I cant make pancakes anymore
She was just about to cry when she smelled something coming from outside. The neighbors were also
cooking something sweet, tasty, and nice! She decided to visit them. She said Good morning! I would like
to spend some time with you, my good friends. And so, Nana finally had pancakes for breakfast!
