COURSE DESCRIPTION
Project Management develops a foundation of concepts and solutions that supports the
planning, scheduling, controlling, resource allocation, and performance measurement.

Application of these core skills will advance opportunities to enhance cost effective
business practices required for successful completion of a project.
RELATED PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Students are able to summarize and discuss the ethical and legal responsibilities
of organizations

leadership skills, marketing strategies and/or international business concepts,

COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the course, students are able to:
Analyze and understand the concepts of project planning and organization,
budgeting and control, and project life cycles.
Evaluate and apply concepts related to organizational workflow including the
staffing process, project planning elements, and the project plan contents and
project communications.

Create and Apply project scheduling techniques including WBS, CPM, PERT,
GANTT CHARTS, and resource constrained scheduling.
Analyze skills to create and apply core project management techniques
Create the ability to effectively apply scheduling critical path tasks for successful
completion of projects.

Please note:

It is the students responsibility to review and revise assignments, if needed, prior to
assignment due date.
GRADUATE STUDENT INCOMPLETE POLICY
Seventy percent of course work must be completed before a student is eligible for an
incomplete. Students must request the incomplete before the last day of the class. All
course work, in the event an incomplete is awarded, must be completed within four
weeks.
The highest grade awarded if an incomplete is granted will be a B. If the student does
not complete outstanding work by the deadline, the grade assigned will be an F or
grade earned to date, whichever is higher. Students on Probation will not be granted an
incomplete.
Exceptions to policy are determined by the Dean of the Graduate School based on the
following areas. These include: natural disaster, hospitalization, military deployment,
and or the death of an immediate family member.

Topic 1: Project Management is a strategic necessity for the success of any
business. Based on the reading in the chapters what do you think are the 5 most
critical points in delivering successful Project Management in your current business
(or former business). Be sure to define why these points are critical and support
them with real examples from your history or with references supporting your
choices.
Topic 2: We will be developing a real project for this course. You will need to define
a project that is critical to your current business (or former business). You will need
to outline the following in this discussion thread:
What the project is and why is it important to the success of the business?
What is the level of support for this project at the upper levels of leadership?

have the right level of management on board to support the cost outlay?

1)
NOTE: Utilize the threaded discussion in Topic 2 to assist you in developing your
project definition. Be sure to utilize the feedback from peers to strengthen your
work. Write a 5-7 page APA formatted deliverable where you substantively support
your project choice and the ability to use resources effectively and efficiently.
Include 5-7 peer-reviewed references.

Topic: Now that we have defined your project and have a clear level of expectation
of what it consists of we need to determine the level of resources will be required
for the success of the project. Resources are a challenge in any organization
because they are shared resources and not dedicated.
Answer the following 2 questions:
1. Examine, analyze, and explain what resources you will need for your project
at a high level. You will need to define why the resources you selected are
critical to project success?
2. Since it is expected that these resources are shared with other departments
within your business define what you see as challenges in getting these
resources assigned to the project?
