Is Kuja Dosha a Paper Bomb?

Kuja dosha is a factor, whose occurrence should not be ignored. But there are a lot of exceptional rules quoted by the savants of astrology, as antidotes. This bugbear of Kuja dosha has been the
cause of ruining the joy of many families, by preventing the marriages, which are otherwise very eligible and anxiously wished for.

The element of Mars is the fire, which rules marriage. If Mars is situated or associated badly
in the horoscope of Male and
Female, the sacrosanct fire would get extinguished soon.Such unfortunate situation is
generally termed as Kuja or Mars dosha.
Many of the astrological texts define Kuja dosha as,
'' Dhane Vyaye cha pathale jamitre cha astame kuja,
Streenam bhartru vinasam cha bhrthrunam stree nasanam
i.e., in any male or female horoscope, if Mars is placed in any of the house of 2,12,4,7,and 8,
from Ascendant or Moon or Venus, the result will be widowhood (or widowerhood) for both.
Some savants of Astrology define that the first house from Ascendant, Moon or Venus also to
be taken for consideration for this dosha, because of the fact that the Ascendant represents the
physical strength, Moon represents the mind and the Venus represents the sexual emotions.
The order of increasing degree of severity of Kuja dosha are I,2,12,4, 7 and 8 from
Ascendant, Moon and Venus respectively.
The first house signify the physical comforts, the second the family, the 12th the pleasures of
bed, the 4th the happiness of life. The 7th signifies the husband or wife and the 8th indicates
the longevity of husband or wife. As per female horoscopy, the 8th house is called the
Mangalya-stana, representing longer married life. The 8th house in Male horoscope rules his
own longevity only, while the 7th about his wife.
If Mars is placed in the 7th in a female horoscope, there will be quarrels related to marriage
and if it is placed in the 8th, widowhood would be the result. For the blemish of 7th or 8th
house, of female, the blemish of 7th house alone in the male horoscope is sufficient for
remedy. For long marital life, a female who has the Mars dosha should marry a male, who has
the same type of dosha. i.e. Mars occupying similar houses in both the horoscopes are
considered as the best for longer married life.

There will be no Mars dosha,

1.If Mars occupies its own houses of Aries or Scorpio, and its exalted house of Capricorn and
its debilitated house of Cancer.
2. If Mars is aspected by Jupiter.
3. If Mars happens to be the lord of Lagna.
4. If Mars happens to be the 7th lord and posited in the 7th
5. If Mars is placed in any Movable signs.
6. If Mars is combust or retrograde.
7. If Mars is conjunct with Jupiter.
8. If Mars is conjunct with Moon or Mercury,
9. Presence of Jupiter or Venus in the Lagna.
10. One who has Ruchaka Yoga, for the natives of Aries, Cancer, Scorpio and Capricorn.
11. One who has Sasi-Mangala Yoga and Gajakesari Yoga.
12. One who has Sarala yoga (Capricorn happened to be the 12th house and when Mars is in
the 8th house
13. Mars in the 8th in the sign owned by Jupiter.
14. Mars has slight dosha in the houses owned by Sun and Saturn.
15. If the depositor of Mars in a Kendra from Lagna.
16. Mars in Taurus and Libra, falling in the 12th house.
17. Mars in Cancer, Leo, Capricorn, Sagittarius or Pisces, coinciding with 8th house.
18. Virgo and Gemini coinciding with 2nd house.
19. Maleficience is very negligible, if Mars is placed in the house of Jupiter.
20. Mars has no dosha in Leo and Aquarius.
21. Mars is quite bad in a house other than Aries and Scorpio.
As there are a lot of exceptions available, fearing of Kuja dosha is found to be ridiculous. One

would have naturally a deep confusion of the fact that when Mars is taken as a Malefic in the
consideration of “Papa Samya” for matching the horoscope, why should then
Mars be taken as separately for its dosha?
Taking into consideration the above exceptions, let us verify the natives of every Ascendant
separately.

ARIES Ascendant (Mars as the Lord of 1st and 8th)

1. Mars in Lagna : own house No dosha
2. Mars in 2nd (Taurus) : No dosha due to Mars being Lagna lord
3. Mars in 4th ( Cancer) : House of Debility No dosha
4. Mars in 7th ( Libra) : Lagna lord Mars in Movable Rasi No dosha
5. Mars in 8th ( Scorpio) : Own house No dosha
6. Mars in 12th ( Pisces) : Lagna lord Mars in Jupiter’s house.- NO.
a) Mars placed 1st or 8th is good for best Mangalya yoga.
b) Conjunction of Sun and Jupiter (trine lords) in 8th is specifically benefic for both male and
female.

TAURUS Ascendant ( Mars as lords of 7th & 12th , a malefic)

1. Mars in Lagna : Kuja dosha. Mars in enemy’s house
2. Mars in 2nd ( Gemini ) : Gemini coincides with 2nd house No dosha.
3. Mars in 4th ( Leo ) : Due to the ownership of house of Sun, Slight
dosha
4. Mars in 7th ( Scorpio) : Own house 7th lord in 7th -No dosha.
5. Mars in 8th ( Sagittarius) : Sagittarius coinciding with 8th house No dosha.
6. Mars in 12th ( Aries) : Own house No dosha.

a) Venus in Kendra or in trine from Ascendant or Moon will be antidotes for Mars dosha.

GEMINI Ascendant ( Mars as 6th & 11th lord ,a malefic)

1. Mars in lagna : Kuja dosha.
2. Mars in 2nd ( Cancer ) : The house of Mars’ debilitation- No
dosha.
3. Mars in 4th ( Virgo ) : Kuja dosha.
4. Mars in 7th (Sagittarius) : Due to Jupiter’s own house; Slight dosha
5. Mars in 8TH ( Capricorn) : Mars is exalted here; No dosha.
6. Mars in 12th ( Taurus) : Gemini coincides with 12th house; No dosha.
Some section of Astrologers are of view that Mars occupying the house of Mercury would
also nullify the Mars dosha, if it receives the aspect of Jupiter or Moon.

CANCER Ascendant (Mars as 5th & 10th lord, a yogakaraka )

1. Mars in Lagna : House of debilitation. No dosha.
2. Mars in 2nd ( Leo) : Due to the own house of Sun. Slight dosha
3. Mars in 4th (Libra) : No dosha, due to Movable rasi.
4. Mars in 7th (Capricorn) : No dosha, due to the house of Mars’ exaltation.
5. Mars in 8th (Aquarius) : Due to the house of Saturn. Slight dosha
6. Mars in 12th (Gemini) : No dosha, due to Gemini coinciding with 12th house.
Mars being yogakaraka, if Mars gets aspects from any benefic, all doshas will be nullified.

LEO Ascendant (Mars as 4th & 9th lord, a yogakaraka)

1. Mars in Lagna : Due to the own house of Sun, Slight dosha.

2. Mars in 2nd (Virgo) : Virgo coincides with 2nd house. No dosha
3. Mars in 4th (Scorpio) : Mars’ own house. No dosha.
4. Mars in 7th (Aquarius) : Due to the house of Saturn, Slight dosha
5. Mars in 8th (Pisces) : Pisces coinciding with 8th house, No dosha.
6. Mars in 12th (Cancer) : No dosha, due to the Mars debilitation house.
If Mars gets aspects of Jupiter, all doshas above would be nullified

VIRGO Ascendant (Mars as 3rd &8th lord, a malefic)

1. Mars in lagna : Kuja dosha
2. Mars in 2nd (Libra) : Movable rasi No dosha.
3. Mars in 4th (Sagittarius) : Due to Jupiter’s own house, Slight
dosha
4. Mars in 7th (Pisces) : Due to Jupiter’s own house, Slight dosha
5. Mars in 8th ( Aries) : Mars’ Own house No dosha
6. Mars in 12th ( Leo) : Due to own house of Sun, Slight dosha
a) If Mars receives aspects of any Benefic except Jupiter, Kuja dosha would be nullified.
( since Jupiter is enemy to Mercury).
b) Also for item 3 above, if Jupiter is placed in Scorpio as an exchange for Mars in
Sagittarius, the dosha gets cancelled.

LIBRA Ascendant. (Mars as the 2nd & 7th lord, a Maraka)

1. Mars in Lagna : No dosha, due to Movable sign.
2. Mars in 2nd ( Scorpio) : No dosha, due to Mars’ own house.

3. Mars in 4th (Capricorn) : House of exaltation of Mars. No dosha.

4. Mars in 7th (Aries) : Own house of Mars. No dosha.
5. Mars in 8th ( Taurus) : Kuja dosha.
6. Mars in 12th (Virgo) : Kuja dosha.
If Venus or Jupiter is in Lagna, it cancels Mars dosha, whereever the Mars is placed.

SCORPIO Ascendant. (Mars as the 1st &6th lord, Malefic)

1. Mars in Lagna : Own house of Mars. No dosha.
2. Mars in 2nd (Sagittarius) : Due to lagna lord occupying Jupiters house,
no dosha.
3. Mars in 4th (Aquarius) : Due to Lagnadhipa in the Saturn’s
house, no dosha.
4. Mars in 7th ( Taurus) : No dosha, due to Mars as the Lagna lord.
5. Mars in 8th ( Gemini ) : Being Mars as Lagnadhipathi. no dosha
6. Mars in 12th (Libra ) : Libra coincides with 12th house; No dosha.
For Scorpio and Aries Ascendants, Whereever Mars is placed there will not be any dosha

SAGITTARIUS Ascendant.( Mars as 5th &12th lord, a benefic)

1. Mars in Lagna : Own house of Jupiter. Slight dosha
2. Mars in 2nd (Capricorn) : House of exaltation of Mars. No dosha.
3. Mars in 4th (Pisces ) : Own House of Jupiter. Slight dosha
4. Mars in 7th (Gemini ) : Mars dosha.
5. Mars in 8th (Cancer ) : House of debilitation of Mars. No dosha.

6. Mars in 12th ( Scorpio) : Own house of Mars. No dosha.

If Mars get aspected by Jupiter or any benefic, or conjunction of Mars and Jupiter occurs, or
conjunction of Moon and Mercury occurs, then Mars dosha get cancelled.

CAPRICORN Ascendant. ( Mars as 4th & 11th lord, a benefic)

1. Mars in Lagna : House of exaltation of Mars. No dosha.
2. Mars in 2nd (Aquarius) : House of Saturn. No dosha
3. Mars in 4th ( Aries ) : Own house of Mars. No dosha.
4. Mars in 7th (Cancer) : House of debilitation of Mars. No dosha.
5. Mars in 8th ( Leo) : Own house of Sun. No dosha.
6. Mars in 12th ( Sagittarius) : Mars posited in Jupiter’s house. Slight Mars dosha
There is general rule that is Mars is placed in Sagittarius for Capricorn Lagna, there will not
be any dosha. :
AQUARIUS Ascendant.( Mars as 3rd & 10th lord, Mixed )
1. Mars in Lagna. : Own house of Saturn. No dosha.
2. Mars in 2nd (Pisces) : Own house of Jupiter. Slight Mars dosha.
3. Mars in 4th (Taurus) : Mars dosha.
4. Mars in 7th (Leo) : Sun’s Own house. Slight dosha.
5. Mars in 8th (Virgo) : Mars in 8th, when Capricorn as 12th house, causes Sarala yoga,
which is said to be an antidote for Mars dosha.
6. Mars in 12th (Capricorn) : House of exaltation of Mars. No dosha.
There is a general rule that Mars will not cause any dosha to Aquarius and Leo lagnas.

PISCES Ascendant. ( Mars as 2nd & 9th lord, a benefic)

1. Mars in Lagna : Own house of Jupiter. Slight Mars dosha.
2. Mars in 2nd (Aries) : Own house of Mars. No dosha.
3. Mars in 4th (Gemini) : Mars dosha.
4. Mars in 7th (Virgo) : Mars dosha.
5. Mars in 8th ( Libra) : Movable sign. No dosha.
6. Mars in 12th ( Aquarius) : Own house Saturn. Slight dosha
For Sagittarius and Pisces ascendants, if Mars is aspected by Jupiter,there will not be any
dosha.
From the above, the followings are observed:
1. Where-ever Mars is placed, there will not be any Mars dosha for natives of Aries and
Scorpio Ascendants.
2. For Cancer Ascendant and Leo Ascendant Mars is the Yogakaraka. Certain positions of
Mars for those natives cause slight Mars dosha; those doshas will be nullified, if Mars
receives Jupiter’s aspects. The above happen similarly for Capricorn natives also.
3. If Mars is placed in Taurus for Taurus Ascendants,
If Mars is placed in Gemini or Virgo for Gemini Ascendants,
If Mars is placed in Virgo for Virgo Ascendants,
If Mars is placed in Taurus or Virgo for Libra Ascendants,
If Mars is placed in Gemini for Sagittarius Ascendant,
