In the year 1957, founders Filippo and Maria Casella arrived in Australia. In 1965, after purchasing
land in New South Wales, Filippo started growing grapes and, in 1969, Casella winery was opened. In
1975, to add to the growing needs of the winery, a stainless-steel tank along with 12-tonne fermenter
were installed.
One of Filippos sons, John Casella joined the group and became the managing director at Casella in
1994.
In 2001, Casella family got associated with US importers W.J Deutsch & Sons to launch Yellow Tail in
the US. In the first year, Yellow Tail outshines its forecast sale by selling over a million cases, a huge
success in the US. In the same year, Yellow Tail became the most powerful Australian Wine brand and
was ranked fifth as the most powerful wine brand on the world map. Sales of this iconic wine
reached five million globally in 2003.
In 2005, Casella brand enters the export hall of fame for its contribution to wine industry of Australia.
In 2006, Worlds fastest bottling line was installed at the winery having the capability of processing
36,000 bottles every hour.
In 2011, Yellow Tail became largest wine brand to be exported from Australia.
In 2013, Casella brand reached the unbelievable mark of selling one billion Yellow Tail wines bottles
from its beginning.
From the year 2014, Casella wines acquired Peter Lehmann, Laira, and Morris Wines each year
consecutively till 2016.
