Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II
8

Priest:

You are indeed Holy, O Lord,

the fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit upon them
like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At the time he was betrayed
and entered willingly into his Passion,
he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice
and, once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,
AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW
AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU
AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
The mystery of faith.

People:

We proclaim your Death, O Lord,

and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

Priest:

Therefore, as we celebrate
9

the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,

we offer you, Lord,
the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.
Humbly we pray
that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, your Church,
spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with Francis our Pope
and Vicente our Bishop
and all the clergy
__________________________________________________________________________________________

(In Masses for the Dead, the following may be added)

Remember your servant N.,

whom you have called (today)
from this world to yourself.
Grant that he (she) who was united with your Son
in a death like his,

_______________________________________________________

Remember also our brothers and sisters

who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with Blessed Joseph, her Spouse
with the blessed Apostles, with St. Sebastian,
Saint (Patron of the Parish/chaplaincy),
and all the Saints who have pleased you
throughout the ages,
we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you

Hours: Pss II, Seasonal proper OR, Te Deum, EP II of Sun
Mass: Prop, GL, CR, Pf I-V, Sol Bl
Other celebrations are not permitted, not even funeral Masses.

THEME: PEACE IS ENTRUSTED TO US

BY THE MERCIFUL LORD
INTRODUCTION TO THE LITURGY

Oftentimes we are faced with new problems in our life and

also in the Church. How did we solved them? Our Merciful Lord
this Sunday offers us a solution to our concerns and it is no other
than his peace. Our national elections is fast approaching and we
will choose a new president and leaders of our country. How do we
elect according to our conscience and not according to the dictate
of money or the various misleading data in the Mass Media? Are
we going to pursue this election in order to have solutions to the
pressing problems of corruption and poverty in our country?
(The Entrance Antiphon is said by the Priest or Lector if the entrance hymn is not sung. It is made
before the Sign of the cross.)

Entrance Antiphon
Proclaim a joyful sound and let it be heard; proclaim to the ends
of the earth: The Lord has freed his people, alleluia.
GLORY TO GOD
COLLECT

Grant, almighty God, that we may celebrate with

heartfelt devotion these days of joy, which we keep in honor
of the risen Lord, and that what we relive in remembrance we
may always hold to in what we do. Through our Lord Jesus
Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of
the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

INTRODUCTION TO THE READING

The Church is not just any other group. Under the guidance
of the Holy Spirit, the apostles has shown to the world that this
Church welcomes all.

1. A reading from the Acts of the Apostles

Acts 15:1-2, 22-29

Some who had come down from Judea were

instructing the brothers, Unless you are circumcised
according to the Mosaic practice, you cannot be saved.
Because there arose no little dissension and debate by Paul
and Barnabas with them, it was decided that Paul, Barnabas,
and some of the others should go up to Jerusalem to the
apostles and elders about this question.
The apostles and elders, in agreement with the whole
church, decided to choose representatives and to send them
to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. The ones chosen were
Judas, who was called Barsabbas, and Silas, leaders among
the brothers. This is the letter delivered by them:
The apostles and the elders, your brothers, to the
brothers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia of Gentile origin:
greetings. Since we have heard that some of our number who
went out without any mandate from us have upset you with
their teachings and disturbed your peace of mind, we have
with one accord decided to choose representatives and to
send them to you along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
who have dedicated their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ. So we are sending Judas and Silas who will also
convey this same message by word of mouth: It is the
decision of the Holy Spirit and of us not to place on you any
burden beyond these necessities, namely, to abstain from
meat sacrificed to idols, from blood, from meats of strangled
animals, and from unlawful marriage. If you keep free of
these, you will be doing what is right. Farewell.
The word of the Lord.
R: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

Ps 67:2-3, 5, 6, 8

O God, let all the nations praise you!

1. May God have pity on us and bless us; may he let his face
shine upon us. So may your way be known upon earth;
among all nations, your salvation. (R.)
2. May the nations be glad and exult because you rule the
peoples in equity; the nations on the earth you guide. (R.)
3. May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples
praise you! May God bless us, and may all the ends of the
earth fear him! (R.)
INTRODUCTION TO THE READING

John the Apostle describes the Church as a city where God

dwells. This is founded on the apostles and is open for all.

2. A reading from the Book of Revelation

Rev 21:10-14, 22-23

The angel took me in spirit to a great, high mountain

and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of
heaven from God. It gleamed with the splendor of God. Its
radiance was like that of a precious stone, like jasper, clear as
crystal. It had a massive, high wall, with twelve gates where
twelve angels were stationed and on which names were
inscribed, the names of the twelve tribes of the Israelites.
There were three gates facing east, three north, three south,
and three west. The wall of the city had twelve courses of
stones as its foundation, on which were inscribed the twelve
names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
I saw no temple in the city for its temple is the Lord
God almighty and the Lamb. The city had no need of sun or
moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gave it light, and its
lamp was the Lamb.
The word of the Lord.
R: Thanks be to God.

15

INTRODUCTION TO THE GOSPEL

We proclaim our love for Jesus through living his gospel.

He continues to be with us through His Holy Spirit which gives us
the understanding of what the Gospel is telling us on how we
should live.
ALLELUIA

If anyone loves me, he will hold to my words, and my

Father will love him, and we will come to him.
GOSPEL

Jn 14:23-29

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

R: Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus said to his disciples: Whoever loves me will

keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will
come to him and make our dwelling with him. Whoever does
not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear
is not mine but that of the Father who sent me.
I have told you this while I am with you. The
Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my
name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I
told you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not
as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts
be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, I am going away
and I will come back to you. If you loved me, you would
rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater
than I. And now I have told you this before it happens, so that
when it happens you may believe.
The Gospel of the Lord.
R: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

APOSTLES CREED
PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

P:

Through the Holy Spirit that we received, let us pray that

we may be united to the Risen Lord in his peace and
mercy. And so we say:
Lord, listen to the plea of your people.

1. That the clergy and the ministers of the Church, may

continue to be bearers of the peace of Christ specially on
this Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, we pray. (R.)
2. That many of our farmers and farm owners in our country
afflicted by the El Nio Phenomenon will continue to trust
in the generosity of the Lord as we pray for the abundant
rain for our dry land, we pray. (R.)
3. That our faith in the merciful Lord lead us to remain in his
peace so that we may become bearers of change that will
take place in our country through electing new
government leaders and that the elections will be free
from cheating, we pray. (R.)
4. That the Christian families specially on this Year of the
Eucharist and the Family will remain in the light of the
Spirit of the Lord as they teach their children who are

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST
PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

May our prayers rise up to you, O Lord, together with

the sacrificial offerings, so that, purified by your graciousness,
we may be conformed to the mysteries of your mighty love.
Through Christ our Lord.

PREFACE
17

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, at

all times to acclaim you, O Lord, but on this day above all to
laud you yet more gloriously, when Christ our Passover has
been sacrificed.
For he is the true Lamb who has taken away the sins
of the world; by dying he has destroyed our death, and by
rising, restored our life.
Therefore, overcome with paschal joy, every land,
every people exults in your praise and even the heavenly
Powers, with the angelic hosts, sing together the unending
hymn of your glory, as they acclaim:
(The Communion Antiphon is said by the Priest or Lector if the communion hymn is not sung. It is
made before communion.)

Communion Antiphon
If you love me, keep my commandments, says the Lord, and I will
ask the Father and he will send you another Paraclete, to abide with you
for ever, alleluia.
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Almighty ever-living God, who restore us to eternal life

in the Resurrection of Christ, increase in us, we pray, the fruits
of this paschal Sacrament and pour into our hearts the
strength of this saving food. Through Christ our Lord.
SOLEMN BLESSING

May God, who by the Resurrection of his Only

Begotten Son was pleased to confer on you the gift of
redemption and of adoption, give you gladness by his
blessing. (R.) Amen
May he, by whose redeeming work you have received
the gift of everlasting freedom, make you heirs to an eternal
inheritance. (R.) Amen
And may you, who have already risen with Christ in
Baptism through faith, by living in a right manner on this earth,
be united with him in the homeland of heaven. (R.) Amen
And may the blessing of almighty God, the Father, and
the Son, and the Holy Spirit, come down on you and remain
with you for ever. (R.) Amen

Mass: Prop, GL, CR, Pf I-II of Ascension, Roman Canon inserts, Sol Bl 7

PN Today is Mothers Day. This secular observance should not

diminish the primary focus of this Sunday as the celebration of the
Paschal Mystery. However, in order to provide recognition of this

(see BB, nos. 1724-1728; for blessing of mothers, see HB 197).

THEME: YOU ARE THE WITNESSES

OF THE FATHERS MERCY
INTRODUCTION TO THE LITURGY

When our Lord ascended, he entrusted his disciples the

mission to be the witnesses of mercy and be merciful like the
Father. We also celebrate today the Catholic Communications
Sunday and we are reminded of the proper use of the means of
communication in our modern world and we also pray for our
brothers and sisters working in the field of Mass Media that they
may be faithful witnesses of Gods truth and mercy.
This Sunday we also celebrate Mothers Day. We recognize
and thank all the mothers. Mothers truly witness the motherly and
merciful care of God to his people.
(The Entrance Antiphon is said by the Priest or Lector if the entrance hymn is not sung. It is made
before the Sign of the cross.)

GLORY TO GOD

19

Gladden us with holy joys, almighty God, and make us

rejoice with devout thanksgiving, for the Ascension of Christ
your Son is our exaltation, and, where the Head has gone
before in glory, the Body is called to follow in hope. Through
our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
LITURGY OF THE WORD
INTRODUCTION TO THE READING

Before he ascended Jesus commissioned his apostles. The

Holy Spirit will give them strength as witness of Christ the Lord
through the world.

1. A reading from the Acts of the Apostles

Acts 1:1-11

In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus

did and taught until the day he was taken up, after giving
instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he
had chosen. He presented himself alive to them by many
proofs after he had suffered, appearing to them during forty
days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While meeting
with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem,
but to wait for the promise of the Father about which you
have heard me speak; for John baptized with water, but in a
few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
When they had gathered together they asked him,
Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to
Israel? He answered them, It is not for you to know the
times or seasons that the Father has established by his own
authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit
comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem,
throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted
up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were
looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men
dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said,
20

Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the

sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven
will return in the same way as you have seen him going into
heaven.
The word of the Lord.
R: Thanks be to God.

Ps 47:2-3, 6-7, 8-9

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

God mounts his throne to shouts of joy:

a blare of trumpets for the Lord.
1. All you peoples clap your hands, shout to God with cries

of gladness, For the LORD, the Most High, the awesome,

is the great king over all the earth. (R.)
2. God mounts his throne amid shouts of joy; the LORD,
amid trumpet blasts. Sing praise to God, sing praise; sing
praise to our king, sing praise. (R.)
3. For king of all the earth is God; sing hymns of praise.
God reigns over the nations, God sits upon his holy
throne. (R.)
INTRODUCTION TO THE READING

In this letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians he is teaching the

believers to know first and foremost the Risen Lord who is now
seated at the right hand of the Father as Lord and the fullness of
all.

2. A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians

Eph 1:17-23

Brothers and sisters: May the God of our Lord Jesus

Christ, the Father of glory, give you a Spirit of wisdom and
revelation resulting in knowledge of him. May the eyes of
your hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the
hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in
his inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the
surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe, in
accord with the exercise of his great might: which he worked
21

in Christ, raising him from the dead and seating him at his
right hand in the heavens, far above every principality,
authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is
named not only in this age but also in the one to come.
And he put all things beneath his feet and gave him as head
over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of
the one who fills all things in every way.
The word of the Lord.
R: Thanks be to God.

INTRODUCTION TO THE GOSPEL

The apostles, and the whole Church was commissioned to

the whole world to preach the Good News of Christ who died for
us and was resurrected from the dead.
ALLELUIA

Go and teach all people my gospel. I am with you

always, until the end of the world.
GOSPEL

Lk 24:46-53

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

R: Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus said to his disciples: Thus it is written that the

Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day
and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be
preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from
Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold I
am sending the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in
the city until you are clothed with power from on high.
Then he led them out as far as Bethany, raised his
hands, and blessed them. As he blessed them he parted from
them and was taken up to heaven. They did him homage and
then returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and they were
continually in the temple praising God.
The Gospel of the Lord.
R: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

We offer sacrifice now in supplication, O Lord, to honor

the wondrous Ascension of your Son: grant, we pray, that
through this most holy exchange we, too, may rise up to the
heavenly realms. Through Christ our Lord.
PREFACE

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,

always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father,
almighty and eternal God.
For the Lord Jesus, the King of glory, conqueror of sin
and death, ascended today to the highest heavens, as the
Angels gazed in wonder.
Mediator between God and man, judge of the world
and Lord of hosts, he ascended, not to distance himself from
our lowly state but that we, his members, might be confident
of following where he, our Head and Founder, has gone
before.
It is

world.
And finally, we ask you, God of all tenderness, to
descend upon us all, in the name of the Father, and of the

THEME: COME HOLY SPIRIT

AND MAKE US TO BE MERCIFUL
INTRODUCTION TO THE LITURGY

Today, is Pentecost Sunday and we celebrate the descent of

the Holy Spirit upon the apostles. Through the Spirit, people of
different languages were able to understand the Good News of
Jesus Christ. Being Merciful is a language that unites us and
signifies that God is at work in the world. The Holy Spirit
continues to change us and we pray that the previous national
elections will continue this renewal and will make our government
leaders to be merciful in bringing change to the lives of the Filipino
people.
(The Entrance Antiphon is said by the Priest or Lector if the entrance hymn is not sung. It is made
before the Sign of the cross.)

Entrance Antiphon
The Spirit of the Lord has filled the whole world and that which
contains all things understands what is said, alleluia.
GLORY TO GOD
COLLECT

O God, who by the mystery of todays great feast

sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation, pour
out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit across the face of the
26

earth and, with the divine grace that was at work when the
Gospel was first proclaimed fill now once more the hearts of
believers. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives
and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for
ever and ever.
LITURGY OF THE WORD
INTRODUCTION TO THE READING

Noise, strong wind, tongues as of fire and many languages:

they were symbols explaining the first Pentecost. The power of God
came to unite the scattered humanity to become one community
with a place for all.

1. A reading from the Acts of the Apostles

Acts 2:1-11

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were

all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the
sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire
house in which they were. Then there appeared to them
tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one
of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and
began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them
to proclaim.
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under
heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in
a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard
them speaking in his own language. They were astounded,
and in amazement they asked, Are not all these people who
are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them
in his native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and
Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and
Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt
and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers
from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and
Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the
mighty acts of God.
27

The word of the Lord.

R: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

Ps 104:1, 24, 29-30, 31, 34

Lord, send out your Spirit,

and renew the face of the earth.
1. Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord, my God, you are great

indeed! How manifold are your works, O Lord! the earth

is full of your creatures; (R.)
2. May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord
be glad in his works! Pleasing to him be my theme; I will
be glad in the Lord. (R.)
3. If you take away their breath, they perish and return to
their dust. When you send forth your spirit, they are
created, and you renew the face of the earth. (R.)
INTRODUCTION TO THE READING

Despite our differences in talents and work because all

these come from the one Spirit we too are united in the body of
Christ as one community of believers in faith, hope and love.

2. A reading from the first Letter of St. Paul to the

Corinthians
1 Cor 12:3b-7, 12-13

Brothers and sisters: No one can say, Jesus is Lord,

except by the Holy Spirit. There are different kinds of spiritual
gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service
but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same
God who produces all of them in everyone. To each
individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some
benefit.
As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the
parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ.
For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether
Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given
to drink of one Spirit.
28

The word of the Lord.

R: Thanks be to God.

SEQUENCE

Come, Holy Spirit, and from heaven direct on man the

rays of your light. Come, Father of the poor; come, giver of
Gods gifts; come, light of mens hearts.
Kindly Paraclete, in your gracious visits to mans soul
you bring relief and consolation. If it is weary with toil, you
bring it ease; in the heat of temptation, your grace cools it; if
sorrowful, your words console it.
Light most blessed, shine on the hearts of your faithfuleven into their darkest corners; for without your aid man can
do nothing good, and everything is sinful.
Wash clean the sinful soul, rain down your grace on
the parched soul and heal the injured soul. Soften the hard
heart, cherish and warm the ice-cold heart, and give direction
to the wayward.
Give your seven holy gifts to your faithful, for their
trust is in you. Give them reward for their virtuous acts; give
them a death that ensures salvation; give them unending
bliss. Amen. Alleluia
INTRODUCTION TO THE GOSPEL

The Lord Jesus Christ assured his disciples that we will

send a Paraclete who will be with them and teach them on what
they should do that they may fulfill his commandment of love. All
of those who would obey the spirit will be the dwelling place of the
Father and the Son.
ALLELUIA

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful; and

kindle in them the fire of your love.

Jn 20:19-23

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

R: Glory to you, O Lord.

29

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the

doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the
Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them,
Peace be with you. When he had said this, he showed them
his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw
the Lord. Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the
Father has sent me, so I send you. And when he had said
this, he breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy
Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose
sins you retain are retained.

LITURGY OF THE WORD
INTRODUCTION TO THE READING

God in the Scriptures talks to the person who brings and

obeys his plan. This is fulfilled in Christ, the Word of God made
flesh and he helps man to live the plan of God.

1. A reading from the Book of Proverbs.

Prov. 8: 22-31

Thus says the wisdom of God: "The Lord possessed

me, the beginning of his ways, the forerunner of his prodigies
of long ago; from of old I was poured forth, at the first, before
the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth,
when there were no fountains or springs of water; before the
mountains were settled into place, before the hills, I was
brought forth; while as yet the earth and fields were not made,
nor the first clods of the world.
"When the Lord established the heavens I was there,
when he marked out the vault over the face of the deep; when
33

he made firm the skies above, when he fixed fast the

foundations of the earth; when he set for the sea its limit, so
that the waters should not transgress his command; then was
I beside him as his craftsman, and I was his delight day by
day, playing before him all the while, playing on the surface
of his earth; and I found delight in the human race."
The word of the Lord.
R: Thanks be to God.

Ps 8:4-5, 6-7, 8-9

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

O Lord, our God,

how wonderful your name in all the earth!
1. When I behold your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars which you set in place

What is man that you should be mindful of him,
or the son of man that you should care for him? (R)
2. You have made him little less than the angels,
and
crowned
him
with
glory
and
honor.
You have given him rule over the works of your hands,
putting all things under his feet: (R)
3. All sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field,
The birds of the air, the fishes of the sea,
and whatever swims the paths of the seas. (R)
INTRODUCTION TO THE READING

The wisdom of Christ has brought us forgiveness and grace of

our Father. The Holy Spirit of love gives us the power to love. This
is so our life is founded on the Holy Trinity.

2. A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans

Rom 5:1-5

Brothers and sisters: Therefore, since we have been

justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord
34

Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith to

this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the
glory of God. Not only that, but we even boast of our
afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and
endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope,
and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has
been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that
has been given to us.
The word of the Lord.
R: Thanks be to God.

Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak
on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare
to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because

continually gives himself to us. In the same way, we mature in
being merciful every time we break bread and break ourselves at
the service of our poor and the needy brothers and sisters.

1. A reading from the Book of Genisis.

Gn 14:18-20

In those days, Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out

bread and wine, and being a priest of God Most High, he
blessed Abram with these words: "Blessed be Abram by God
Most High, the creator of heaven and earth; and blessed be
God Most High, who delivered your foes into your hand."
Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

You are a priest for ever, in the line of Melchizedek.

1. The LORD said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand

2. The scepter of your power the LORD will stretch forth

you." (R)
39

INTRODUCTION TO THE READING

St. Paul tells us on how the Lord instituted the Eucharist

during the Last Supper. We continue to celebrate the Eucharist in
bringing the kingdom of love and justice in our midst until his
Second Coming.

2. A reading from the first Letter of St. Paul to the

Corinthians
1 Cor 11:23-26
Brothers and sisters: I received from the Lord what I
also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he
was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks,
broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you. Do this in
remembrance of me." In the same way also the cup, after
supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood.
Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." For
as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim
the death of the Lord until he comes.
The word of the Lord.
R: Thanks be to God.

For pilgrims in their banishment,
The bread for Gods true children meant,
That may not unto dogs be given:
Oft in the olden types foreshowed;

And in the manna sent from heaven.
Come then, good shepherd, bread divine,
40

Still show to us thy mercy sign;

Oh, feed us still, still keep us thine;

Lk 9:11b-17

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.

R: Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus spoke to the crowds about the kingdom of God,

and he healed those who needed to be cured. As the day was
drawing to a close, the Twelve approached him and said,
"Dismiss the crowd so that they can go to the surrounding
villages and farms and find lodging and provisions; for we
are in a deserted place here." He said to them, "Give them
some food yourselves." They replied, "Five loaves and two
fish are all we have, unless we ourselves go and buy food for
all these people." Now the men there numbered about five
thousand. Then he said to his disciples, "Have them sit down
in groups of about fifty." They did so and made them all sit
down. Then taking the five loaves and the two fish, and
41

looking up to heaven, he said the blessing over them, broke

them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
They all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover
fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets.

almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord.
For at the Last Supper with his Apostles, establishing
for the ages to come the saving memorial of the Cross, he
offered himself to you as the unblemished Lamb, the
acceptable gift of perfect praise. Nourishing your faithful by
this sacred mystery, you make them holy, so that the human
race, bounded by one world, may be enlightened by one faith
and united by one bond of charity. And so, we approach the
table of this wondrous Sacrament, so that, bathed in the
sweetness of your grace, we may pass over to the heavenly
realities here foreshadowed.
Therefore, all creatures of heaven and earth sing a new
song in adoration, and we, with all the host of Angels, cry out,
and without end we acclaim:
(The Communion Antiphon is said by the Priest or Lector if the communion hymn is not sung. It is
made before communion.)

Communion Antiphon
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I
in him, says the Lord.
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Grant, O Lord, we pray, that we may delight for all

eternity in that share in your divine life, which is foreshadowed
in the present age by our reception of your precious Body and
Blood. Who live and reign for ever and ever.
SOLEMN BLESSING (Ordinary Time IV)

PRAYER FOR THE JUBILEE OF MERCY

Lord Jesus Christ,
you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father,
and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew
from being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene
from seeking happiness only in created things;
made Peter weep after his betrayal,
and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us,
the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman:
If you knew the gift of God!
You are the visible face of the invisible Father,
of the God who manifests his power above all
by forgiveness and mercy:
let the Church be your visible face in the world,
its Lord risen and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness
in order that they may feel compassion
for those in ignorance and error:
let everyone who approaches them
feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing,
so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord,
and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm,
may bring good news to the poor,
proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,
and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this of you, Lord Jesus,
through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy;
you who live and reign with the Father
and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
Amen.
