Prepare and submit a checklist for THREE categories (Reinforcement,

Formwork and Concrete) of the types of things you would focus on if you were
engaged as a construction consultant by a client with the job of inspecting
construction works on the clients behalf.
As described the project is small office building in which foundation work has been completed
and construction work has just got the peak. All main activities like reinforcement, formwork and
concreting works are running simultaneously. Overall progress or current status of the project is
mentioned in below chart:

Now, as a consultant its our responsibility to check the ongoing activities on behalf of our client
for quality assurance and prevent the errors on site. If we talk about this assignment we are going
to consider Reinforcement, Formwork and Concrete works to be checked and give comments.

For that we prepare general checklist which include all major points to be checked and we can
used that for all area.
Checklist for Reinforcement:
Latest Drawing Revision being used and approved.
Sometime Engineers used old drawings and forget to execute the changes as per
updated drawing.
Whether bars are free from corrosion and oil (Formwork oil) free.
Due to oil, reinforcement and concrete do not get proper bonding and give less
strength.
Check whether main steel bar diameter, spacing and placement are as per drawing.
Human error; will effect on strength as well as on cost
Check whether adequate lap length is provided.
Poor workmanship; effect on strength.
Whether conduits and sleeves are as per drawing and are properly tied to withstand
concreting operations
Conduits will buried in concrete so more vigilance required; if anything goes
wrong, have cost impact and big headache to fix the same.
Check covers and chairs are provided at adequate and properly fixed
Prevent reinforcement to stick with formwork and sometimes avert from expose
after concreting.
Checklist for Formwork:
Check cleanliness & oiling of shuttering material.
To achieve proper finishing and easy to take out
Check wailers, tie rods with conduits, bracings, props are properly fixed
Bursting occurs if supports are loose; tie rod without conduits remain in concrete
and increase the chances of corrosion.
Check whether all joints, gaps & holes are properly sealed.
Concrete slurry comes out if any holes or gap remain; which effect on strength.
Check locations and dimension of cutouts (if any) as per Drawings
If missed, have to do core cutting and will have huge cost impact.
Check Dimensions and level of formwork as per drawings
Level difference in same floor particular in area like toilet to be ckecked.
Check Alignment, plumb, and right angles of formwork assembly.
To avoid the unshaped structure output.

Checklist for Concreting:

Check the Grade of concrete in docket.
Not getting proper strength due to change of grade and structure failure.
Calculate theoretical quantity of concrete in advance.
To order the exact amount of concrete; minimize wastage and save cost.
Start Time and finish time of concerting.
For record and future use.
Slump test
As per specification; to assure the quality and proper mix of concrete.
Concrete sample for compression test
Proper workmanship required for taking samples; sometimes some samples fails
due to this even having good quality of concrete.
Check whether poured concrete is sufficiently vibrated.
Less use of vibrator result in honey combing and effect the strength of concrete.
