General Information
SMCS - 1336
The oil mist detector uses the following two basic functions in response to abnormal situations:
Alarm - If the level of oil mist exceeds the setpoint, the detector activates an alarm relay and the red
"Alarm" indicator is illuminated. Two relays are energized. The result of the activation of the relays
depends on the electrical connections. Typically, one of the relays will activate an alarm in order to
inform the personnel of the condition. The other relay is used for derating and/or shutting down the
engine.
Fault (self-diagnostic) - If the oil mist detector senses an internal malfunction, one relay is energized in
order to disable the alarm relay. Usually, the energized relay is connected to an alarm in order to inform
personnel of the condition. The green "Ready" indicator is extinguished and a red indicator will flash in
order to identify the type of fault. When this condition occurs, the detector cannot activate an alarm for
excessive oil mist. To help protect the engine, the fault condition must be corrected as soon as possible.
In case an abnormal condition occurs, use this Testing and Adjusting, "Troubleshooting" section in order
to help correct the condition.
