Essence
Background: Infectious diseases, especially diarrhea and respiratory tract infections
become a leading cause of death in infants in the world including Indonesia. North
Pontianak sub-districts known as a district that has the ultimate number of cases in
diarrhea and ARI. Washing hands with soap is the simple way to prevent and to control
infectious diseases. Objective: Methods: This study is a descriptive study with cross
sectional design that was conducted in October 2015 in the working area UPTD District
Health Clinics North Pontianak. The populations in this study with total of 972 people
were all housewives members of Posyandu in Puskesmas Siantan Hilir. The sampling
technique used is the probability sampling, with stratified random sampling and gained
91 people as samples Results: From 91 respondents we have, 2 (2.2%) respondents
that have a good level of knowledge and 45 people (49.5% ) have a good attitude about
hand washing Conclusion: Housewifes members in the working area of posyandu
UPTD Puskesmas District of North Pontianak have an unfavorable level of knowledge
and attitudes regarding hand washing.

Abstract
Background: Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of disability and death
worldwide. Platelets play a role in the process of atherosclerosis and Affect the severity
of ischemic stroke. The risk of mortality and functional disability Patients for ischemic
stroke is related to early neurological deterioration (END). Early neurological
deterioration (END) can occur in about 10-40% of ischemic stroke Patients during the
acute stage. END was defined as a Decrease in the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score
of 3 or death within the first 72 hours after onset of stroke. Objective: The purpose of
this study is to Determine the relationship between the platelet count and END in

Patients with acute ischemic stroke. Methods: This study is an observational analytical
study of the which employs a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted in
Doctor Abdul Aziz General Hospital Singkawang. Platelet counts at admission were
analyzed. END assessment was performed in GCS score Hospitalization after72
hours. Statistical analysis was performed using unpaired t-test. Results: Of the 50
Patients enrolled in the study, END was observed in 10 (20%) patients. The mean
platelet counts of Patients with and without END END were 211,592.36 / ml and
225,735.57 / ml respectively. There is no significant difference between the mean
platelet count of Patients with and without END END (p = 0.614). Conclusion: Platelet
count was not associated with END in acute ischemic stroke.
