Usage Meter 3.5.0


Usage Meter version 3.5.0 is now available for metering vCAN
products. Usage Meter 3.5.0 is the current supported version
of Usage Meter. VMware recommends that Service Providers
use Usage Meter Version 3.5.0.

How does Usage Meter determine which


version of NSX is being used.
Upon initial set up the user will need to select the
version of NSX that they are using from a drop
down list. The Usage Meter will then determine
the bundles being utilized based on this
selection.

Bundles?
Yes Usage Meter 3.5.0 meters the new vCAN
bundles once the user sets up the Usage Meter
per the Product Guide.

Yes Usage Meter 3.5.0 will report the Legacy Bundles.
Partners can report on Legacy Bundles until End of
Availability December 31, 2016.

What is new with Usage Meter version 3.5.0?

Does Usage Meter 3.5.0 include bug fixes to known


issues with past versions of UM?
Yes Usage Meter 3.5.0 fixes many of the bugs
found in earlier releases. Please refer to Release
Notes for more detailed information.

What is Usage Meter?


VMware Usage Meter is an appliance that is installed on
vSphere Client that meters and collects product
consumption of vCAN products and generates usage
reports. The main purpose of Usage Meter is to help
Service Providers report usage for billing purposes.

What does it take to upgrade to UM 3.5.0?

Are there any products that need to be metered


manually?
Usage Meter version 3.5.0 does not manually
meter vCloud Availability for vCloud Director so
partners will need to report manually. See steps
outlined in the vCAN Product Usage Guide for
how to report. Please see the VMware
Compatibility Guide for a complete list of
products metered by UM 3.5.0.

What is the earliest usage period when we


can start using Usage Meter 3.5.0 and start
reporting based on UM 3.5.0?
Service Providers can start using Usage Meter
3.5.0 once it is released September 15, 2016;
Partners must run UM 3.5.0 for a full usage
period before reporting using UM 3.5.0. For
example if you install UM 3.5.0 in the middle of
September let it run for the full month of October
before reporting usage for the month of October.
Continue to report Septembers usage using the
current UM that you have already installed. The
earliest usage period partners can report using
UM 3.5.0 is October 2016.

10. Can I run more than one version of Usage


Meter at a time?
Yes, you may run multiple versions of Usage
Meter at a time. You may meter your
infrastructure simultaneously with the old
version and new version 3.5, until version 3.5
has a full months collection of metering data.
You may have old versions meter separate
infrastructure pods while upgrading them to
version 3.5 in a staggered fashion, having both
old and new versions active at the same time.

customer report?
The Customer Monthly Usage Report provides
the product, unit to be measured and the units to
be reported broken out by customer.

Aggregators for billing purposes?
Service Providers must manually enter the
information from the monthly usage report into
the Business Portal and submit for their
Aggregator to review monthly consumption.

the vCAN Business Portal for Aggregators to
review after manually entering information from
their monthly Usage Meter report.
13. How does Usage Meter produce point
calculations?
Usage Meter reports monthly usage based on
each products unit of measure. Products are
measured either a la cart or as a bundle. When
partners enter the units to be reported into the
Business Portal point calculations are generated
