Note for more detailed topographic requirements, please consult and specify:
GENERAL
A1
Establish on site permanent survey stations for re-use as setting out points. Control shall be by a
minimum of four points. The maximum distance between control and any point shall not exceed 200m.
The Survey Control must be at a density sufficient to achieve the clients specified accuracies. Where
this is not stated, the maximum error between survey stations shall not exceed 1 in 20,000 for
distances exceeding 200m. For shorter distances the error shall not be greater than +/- 10mm.
Control shall be established to ensure suitable visibility to all points of the site. The type of markers
used shall depend on location, but must either be permanent ground markers or road nails in tarmac or
concrete.
Control installed by Network RTK Techniques will be observed for at least two separate epochs of 5
minutes separated by at least 20 minutes.
Control installed by GPS Static Methods will be observed for at least 5 minutes depending on baseline
length to base station.
Stations will be clearly marked on the survey drawings giving station name and X, Y and Z coordinates. Station information should be tabulated and marked clearly on the plan.
Station witness diagrams and digital photographs of station location must also accompany surveys
stations taken from Environment Agency E1 and E2 stations.
The survey grid will be orientated to ETRS89 and transformed to OSGB36 for planimetric purposes,
unless otherwise stated by the client. Processing of the survey data and grid must be undertaken by
observation to at least five Ordnance Survey Active Stations to produce data referenced to the GB
National Grid System.
All levels will be observed with reference the OS Active Network and transformed via OSGM02 to
produce Newlyn Heights, unless otherwise stated by the client.
Local grids (where used) must be approximately oriented to grid north and the local datum specified on
the plan.
A2
A3
A4
Spot levels over the area to be based on a 10m grid as a minimum. Spacing to be dependant on site
terrain.
A5
A6
Standard notations and symbols will be used as specified Encia Geomatics Survey Symbols. (See Title
Block)
BOUNDARIES
B1
Inaccessible boundaries shall be estimated by measuring from a known, recorded point. This must be
stated on the finished plan.
VEGETATION
C1
All trees, bushes and hedges, to include trunk diameter, height and accurate canopy spread if specifically
requested. Canopies will be surveyed as a matter of course.
C2
Those adjacent to the boundary that may influence foundations shall also be included and recorded by their
canopy extent if possible to survey.
ROADS
D1
All roads, footpaths, footways, drives and verges giving construction material and condition.
D2
D3
D4
D5
Levels to be taken at all changes in line and level giving a cross section of levels at back edge, top and
bottom of kerb, channel level and road centre. (If safe to do so)
D6
Distance between levels not to exceed 10m. Closer spacing is required to pick up specific details such as
kerb radii.
SERVICES
E1
All street furniture, public utilities and other services including overhead cables evident on or adjacent
to the site.
Invert levels of manholes and drainage systems (only if particularly specified by client)
WATERCOURSES
F1
All ditches, watercourses, gullies, manholes, culverts, head walls, drains and sewers.
F2
BUILDINGS
G1
G2
Adjacent property to be added to survey from OS digital data and checked for accuracy on site (if
required by client).
EXPLORATORY HOLES
H1
All trial pits, boreholes, window sample holes and probe holes to be located giving trial pit number and
single X, Y and Z co-ordinates.
H2
Trial pits greater than 4m in length (ie trial trenches) should be provided with two X, Y and Z co-ordinates
at opposite corners of the trench.
SURFACES
I1
All Embankments (Toe and Top) and hard standing surfaces identified by type.
I2
Data Formats
a)
Or:
b)
DXF File containing 2D detail and 3D points and strings or preferably 3-D Triangulated
faces
Additional points relating to the creation of survey data in DXF files:Separate Layers will be used to identify:

All survey data will be sorted according to Autocad Layers. Each feature will be assigned its
own layer within part of a feature group. This enables layers to be switched off as and when
required, without reducing the integrity of the data.
