2016
78th season

Merit

MISSION STATEMENT
Our aim is to provide club members with coaching and
matchplay of the highest possible quality, to build strong
links with schools, disability groups, other sports clubs
and the local community, and to create an environment
in which everyone is encouraged to develop their skills
and interests.
OUR CLUB
Since its foundation in 1938, our club has been built on
three key principles:
1. We are a club of members, not just players. Members
contribute to the overall well-being of the club both on
and off the pitch.
2. All members pay an annual subscription and match
fees to help meet the clubs year-round running costs.
3. Everyone involved in running the club is a volunteer
who donates their time and skills freely for the benefit of
all members.
These principles are as important now as they were 78
years ago. We ask every member to uphold them.

HOW WE OPERATE
The following pages outline the codes and policies that
underpin our status as a Clubmark-accredited ECB Focus
Club and a safe, effective and child-friendly sports club.
Please take time to familiarise yourself with them.

EQUITY POLICY
South Loughton Cricket Club is committed to ensuring that
equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development.
Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access,
recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them.
It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it
becomes accessible to everyone in society.
The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person
and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport,
regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief,
sexuality or social and economic status.
The club is committed to ensuring everyone has the right to enjoy
their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation,
harassment and abuse.
All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory
behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.
The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour
seriously, according to club disciplinary procedures.

ACCOUNTABILITY
South Loughton Cricket Club is committed to safeguarding and
promoting the well-being of all its members.
It is essential that members, coaches, administrators, volunteers
and parents associated with the club show respect and
understanding for the safety and welfare of others.
All are encouraged to share any concerns they may have with a
club Officer, Welfare Officer or member of the Management
Committee.

CHILD PROTECTION
South Loughton Cricket Club operates a Child Protection Policy
within the England & Wales Cricket Boards guidelines. The
policy is posted on the club website and pavilion noticeboard.
All team managers, coaches, officials and volunteers working
with young people are familiar with these guidelines and have
been screened to check their suitability.
Should you have any concerns, please discuss these in
confidence with Club Welfare Officer Andrew Shields
(M: 07941 347812/andrewshields@ukgateway.net) or
Assistant Club Welfare Officer Kaiser Chowdhury (M: 07947
719951/ mkc_nafis@yahoo.com).

DATA PROTECTION
In accordance with the Data Protection Act, members are
advised that some personal details are maintained on a secure
electronic database.

CODES OF CONDUCT
Members and guests
1. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person within
the context of cricket.

parental or marital status, religious belief, class or social
background, sexual preference or political belief.
3. Not condone, or allow to go unchallenged, any form of
discrimination if witnessed.
4. Display high standards of behaviour.
5. Promote the positive aspects of cricket, including fair play.
6. Encourage all participants to learn the Laws and rules and
play within them, respecting the decisions of match officials.
7. Actively discourage unfair play, rule violations, arguing with
match officials or showing dissent.
8. Value good performance not just match results.
9. Place the well-being and safety of young people above the
development of performance.
10. Ensure that activities are appropriate for the age, maturity,
experience and ability of the individual.
11. Respect young peoples opinions when making decisions
about their participation in cricket.
12. Not smoke, drink or use banned substances while actively
working with young people in the club.
13. Not provide young people with alcohol when they are under
the care of the club.
14. Follow ECB guidelines set out in Safe Hands Crickets

insurance.
2. Always work in an open environment, avoiding private or
unobserved situations.
3. Inform players and parents of the requirements of both the
game and the club.
4. Know and understand the ECB document Safe Hands
Crickets Policy for Safeguarding Children.
Coaches/Officials/Volunteers
Our Code of Conduct for coaches, officials and volunteers:
1. Considers the well-being and safety of participants
before the development of performance.
2. Requires an appropriate working relationship with
performers, based on mutual trust and respect.
3. Ensures all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and
experience of those taking part.
4. Promotes the positive aspects of cricket (including fair play).
5. Demands high standards of behaviour and appearance.
6. Requires all guidelines laid down by the national
governing body and the club to be followed.
7. Requires coaches to hold appropriate, valid qualifications
and insurance cover through membership of the England &
Wales Cricket Board Coaches Association.
8. Requires coaches never to exert undue influence over
performers to obtain personal benefit or reward.

9. Never condones rule violations, rough play or the use of

prohibited substances.
10. Encourages performers to value performances and not just
results.
Parents/Guardians
We welcome and encourage your support of your child and
encourage you to become involved in running the club.
Our Code of Conduct for parents/guardians identifies the
boundaries of acceptable behaviour. We ask you to:
1. Encourage your child to learn the Laws of cricket and
play within them.
2. Strongly discourage unfair play and dissent towards
officials.
3. Help your child to recognise good performance, not just
results.
4. Never force your child to take part in sport.
5. Set a positive example by recognising fair play and
applauding the good performances of all.
6. Never punish a child for losing or making mistakes.
7. Publicly accept officials judgments.
8. Support your childs involvement and help them to enjoy their
sport.
9. Use correct and proper language at all times.

MOBILE PHONES
Our welfare policy states that camera phones are not to be used
within changing or toilet areas.
