ProTaper GOLD is an upgrade from ProTaper Universal and is designed specifically for ProTaper Universal users
who do not want to change their technique but would benefit from the increased safety delivered by the latest
developments in metallurgy - GOLD proprietary processing.
ProTaper GOLD keeps the same philosophy as the first generation of ProTaper (file sequence, file sizes, motor
settings, obturation methods) with strong additional benefits like increased flexibility (24% on average) and
greater resistance to cyclic fatigue (2.6 times greater on an F3 finishing file).

The handle looks shorter, has this been modified with the introduction of ProTaper GOLD?
Yes. The new files also feature a shorter 11mm handle for improved intra oral visibility (vs 13mm with ProTaper
Universal).
Is the original ProTaper Universal system being discontinued?
Yes. You may have residual stock which should be used first however when your stock is gone, ProTaper GOLD
files will replace it. The overwhelmingly positive feedback we have gained since being on the market in America
and upon testing in Europe with clinicians tells us that this is the right thing to do. The product is more flexible,
more resistant to cyclic fatigue and offers a more tactile feel. This reduced shape memory reduces the risk of
file transportation and reduces the risk of file separation which offers a safer solution for the patients.
The file is curved / it came curved / has curved since getting out of packaging:
The DFU states:
ProTaper GOLD files are manufactured with a process that results in a file that has a gold appearance. Due to
this proprietary processing, ProTaper GOLD files may appear slightly curved. This is not a manufacturing defect.
While the file can be easily straightened using only your fingers, it is not necessary to straighten the file prior to
use. Once inside the canal, the ProTaper GOLD file will follow the anatomy.
The advantage of this is that a slightly curved file can be more easily placed into canals of posterior teeth where
access is restricted. This feature can also be used as an advantage to intentionally bend the file before entering
a canal with severe curve and a risk of ledge.

Is it possible to use ProTaper Universal obturation products (GP points/Paper Points/Thermafil) after shaping
a canal with ProTaper GOLD?
Yes. ProTaper GOLD file sizes are exactly the same as ProTaper Universal so the obturation products will fit.
Note: Specifically branded ProTaper GOLD obturation products will be available later in the year (expected 1 st
October 2016) to complete the ProTaper GOLD offering. For now please continue to use ProTaper Universal
obturation methods.
Is it possible to use Guttacore after shaping the canals with ProTaper GOLD?
Yes. If the size verifier fits the shape of the canal, GuttaCore will work the same as it did with ProTaper Universal,
by selecting the correct ISO sizing. For example, 0.25 GuttaCore when finishing on a ProTaper GOLD F2.
Does ProTaper GOLD feel different in the canal?
Yes, it may. Dentists have said the file feels smoother in the canal and offers a more tactile feel. Some comment
that the file does not feel as efficient since the contact on the canal wall is less obvious. The file is exactly the
same as ProTaper Universal, but with the new GOLD NiTi it is much more flexible and the file isnt straightening
out in the canal, giving therefore less resistance, which is a good thing.
The key is to perform several cases as you would with ProTaper Universal and see the difference for yourself.
Can I use ProTaper GOLD with my current motor?
Yes, ProTaper GOLD may be used with the existing ProTaper Universal motor settings so it is compatible with all
existing motors. Please refer to the ProTaper GOLD DFU for recommended settings.
What is the procedure for ProTaper GOLD?
This is unchanged from ProTaper Universal to ProTaper GOLD. Please refer to the ProTaper GOLD DFU.
How do I order ProTaper GOLD?

What is the difference between the GOLD treatment and M-WIRE? Which one is best?
The heat treatment of M-WIRE and the GOLD wire are performed at different stages in the production process.
This translates into different alloy properties. What matters is not only the alloy but the combination of the alloy
together with the design of the file.
Which file system is better: ProTaper Next, WaveOne GOLD or ProTaper GOLD?
Neither file is better than the other one, but one system more suited to a particular type of dentist.
