Description of the core functions

The "WinCC Project Scanner" provides the following functions:

Search for WinCC projects

Overview of WinCC projects

Archiving of WinCC projects

Backup of configuration versions and project statuses

The tool is self-explanatory and scans the data required.

The first step is to check whether "WinRAR" is installed. If not, then installation is
proposed automatically.

You can use the "WinCC Project Scanner" to search selected partitions for WinCC
projects. The results are displayed as a numbered list in the tool.
The next step is to choose a WinCC project that you wish to archive. The tool
automatically separates the databases of the WinCC project.
After making your choice, you select where you wish to store the archived project.
The settings made are displayed in a comprehensive overview. Confirm the
settings and archiving starts. You can repeat this process as often as you like.
The archived WinCC project is stored as a ".rar" file and is identified uniquely by
the date, time and project name in the file name.
Note

The "WinCC Project Scanner" can also be run from an external, writable storage
medium.
The archived projects can also be backed up directly on an external, writable
storage medium.

Table 3-1 shows a sample run of the "WinCC Project Scanner".

Double-click the "WinCC_Project_Scanner.exe" file to run the tool.

Enter the letter of the drive that you wish to search for WinCC projects.

The WinCC projects found are displayed in numerical order.

Specify the number of the project that you wish to have archived.

The connected databases are separated. Confirm the "Ready" dialog and then
specify the letter of the drive where the archived project is to be stored.

Check the data and confirm by entering "1".
The project is then archived and stored in the path specified.

Installation of the tool

Installation of the "WinCC Project Scanner"

Proceed as described in Table 4-1 to install and use the "WinCC Project Scanner".

Note

You do not need to install the "WinCC Project Scanner" itself. It can be run from
a writable removable storage medium (USB stick, for example).
When you start the "WinCC Project Scanner", a check is made as to whether
WinRAR is installed and if not, its installation is proposed. Refer here to Step 2.

Download the "WinCC_Project_Scanner.zip" archive and

extract the files locally or on another medium.

Step 2 is executed only if "WinRAR" is not installed on the

computer.
Download "WinRAR" and save the Setup file in the extracted
"WinCC_Project_Scanner" folder.

Run the "WinCC_Project_Scanner.exe" file and follow the

instructions.

Go to www.win-rar.com to
find the latest version of
"WinRAR" for downloading.
The "WinCC Project
Scanner" is also fully
functional with a test version
