Pom-Pon Basic Moves

Arm Positions:
Airplane: Arms extended straight out from shoulders pointed to
outside walls
Bear Hug: Right arm over left crossed across chest with hands on
shoulder blades
Box Wrap: Arms bent at a 90-degree angle on top of head, right
arm in front
Butt Clean: Arms straight down at side behind butt
Butterfly: Hands behind head with elbows bent and pointed to
outside walls
BBB: Hands behind back with elbows bent and pointed to outside
walls
Candlestick: Arms bent at a 90-degree angle spread shoulderwidth apart
Clean: Arms straight down at side
Closed Muscleman: Arms bent at a 90-degree angle with elbows
touching
Double Triangle: Right arm over left with hands on shoulders to
create an X
Indian: Arms bent 90-degrees in front of shoulders with right arm
on top
Inverted Butterfly: Hands in front of face with elbows bent facing
outside walls
Karate: Hands on hips with elbows facing back wall
Laydown Diamond: Arms in diamond shape perpendicular to body
Laydown Double Triangle: Double triangle rested on chest

Laydown Muscleman: Muscleman with arms flat and poms facing

Laydown Shoot: Arms straight and perpendicular to body with
poms touching
Laydown V: Arms straight and perpendicular to body, arms spread
to make a V
Left Hook: Left arm upper diamond, right arm clean
Left L: Left arm upper shoot, right arm airplane
Left Lower X: Left hand placed over right cheek, elbow touching
torso
Left Ping: Left arm upper V, right arm clean
Left Running Man: Left arm closed muscleman, right arm karate
Left S: Left arm upper diamond, right arm lower diamond
Left Shifted Shelf: Shelf over left shoulder
Left Slice: Left arm upper shoot, right arm clean
Left Sword: Left arm laydown shoot, right arm double triangle
Left Wrench: Left arm upper diamond, right arm laydown diamond
Lower Box Wrap: Arms bent 90-degrees touching rib cage, right
arm on top
Lower Diamond: Arms laid over waist in a diamond shape
Lower Shelf: Arms bent 90-degrees, elbows tucked into sides,
poms point front
Lower Shoot: Arms straight and poms pointed down at ground
Lower Slide: Arms straight and poms pointed toward ground away
from body
Lower V: Arms straight to make a V shape and poms pointed to
ground

Muscleman: Arms bent 90-degrees with poms pointed at ceiling


(like flexing)
Open Shelf: Shelf with poms spread apart in front of shoulders
Open Shoot: Arms straight out with slight arm separation
Peter Pan: Hands on hips, elbows pointed to outside walls
Pointed Pom: Wrist is positioned so the pom is an extension of the
arm
Pressed Pom: Pom is not pointed
Raised Double Triangle: Double triangle with elbows by sides of
face
Raised Tabletop: Tabletop with elbows pointed toward ceiling
Raised W: Elbows pushed into sides and arms angled out and up
to create a W
Rhino: Closed muscleman with hands touching forehead
Right Hook: Right arm upper diamond, left arm clean
Right L: Right arm upper shoot, left arm airplane
Right Lower X: Right arm placed over left cheek, elbow touching
torso
Right Ping: Right arm upper V, left arm clean
Right Running Man: Right arm closed muscleman, left arm karate
Right S: Right arm upper diamond, left arm lower diamond
Right Shifted Shelf: Shelf over right shoulder
Right Slice: Right arm upper shoot, left arm clean
Right Sword: Right arm laydown shoot, left arm double triangle

Shelf: Hands in front of center of chest, elbows tucked into sides


Shimmy Pom: Rustling poms for a set length of time
Snake Arm: Bending elbows to get from one move to another
Swing Arm: Keeping elbows locked to go from one move to
another
Swoop Arm: Moving arms in a sliding motion
Tabletop: Hands in front of center of chest, elbows facing outside
walls
Upper Diamond: Arms raised above head in diamond shape,
elbows outside
Upper Shoot: Arms straight and hands together above head, poms
point up
Upper V: Arms straight and hands above head to create V, poms
point up
W: Elbows tucked into sides, hands facing outside walls
X: Right arm in front to create an X shape in front of face

Leg and Body Positions:


Body Roll: Swooping of the whole torso
Deep Sponge: Knees together and bent very low
Dip Left Shoulder: Pull left shoulder back and right shoulder
forward
Dip Right Shoulder: Pull right shoulder back and left shoulder
forward

Dog: Calves on ground, and legs together


Face Back: Turned to face the back wall
Face Front: Turned to face the front wall
Face Left Corner: Turned to face either the front or back left corner
Face Left Side: Turned to face the left wall
Face Right Corner: Turned to face either the front or back right
corner
Face Right Side: Turned to face the right wall
Feet Together: Legs and feet completely together
Flatback: Torso bent 90-degrees at the hips with back straight
Football: Legs shoulder-width apart and knees bent facing outside
corners
Halfback: Torso bent 45-degrees at the hips with back straight
Hinge: Torso bent slightly with back straight
Hop: Small jump off the ground with both legs
Inverted Left Leg: Left knee and foot turn in to face right leg
Inverted Right Leg: Right knee and foot turn in to face left leg
Left Closed Messy Squat: Left leg bent facing front, right calf on
ground to front
Left Lunge: Left leg football, right leg in feet together position
Left Messy Squat: Left leg bent facing corner, right calf on ground
to other corner
Left Pretzel: Left leg folded in front of body, right leg folded on
right side
Left Runner: Left leg bent in front of body, right leg bent behind
body

Mermaid: Mountain with weight shifted to one side and legs on


ground to side
Mountain: Sitting on butt with legs bent and knees toward ceiling,
legs together
On Toes: Heels off the ground
Open Mountain: Mountain with legs spread shoulder-width apart
Open Sponge: Sponge with legs in a straddle
Pencil Sit: Sitting on butt with legs extended straight out and put
together
Pike Sit: Sitting on butt with legs extended straight out to create a
V shape
Pivot Left Foot: Pick up right foot to turn and keep left foot on
ground
Pivot Right Foot: Pick up left foot to turn and keep right foot on
ground
Pop Chest: Flex torso by pulling shoulders back and bringing them
forward
Pop Feet: Hop to bring feet in together
Right Closed Messy Squat: Right leg bent facing front, left calf on
ground to front
Right Lunge: Right leg football, left leg in feet together position
Right Messy Squat: Right leg bent to corner, left calf on ground to
other corner
Right Pretzel: Right leg folded in front of body and left leg folded
to left side
Right Runner: Right leg bent in front of body, left leg bent behind
body
Spider: Football with torso in flatback position
Sponge: Feet together with legs slightly bent

Squat: Legs together and bent, on toes near the ground


Step Left Foot: Pick up left foot to step and keep right foot on
ground
Step Right Foot: Pick up right foot to step and keep left foot on
ground
Straddle: Standing with legs shoulder-width apart
Swoop: Body gliding through a motion
Torso Left Corner: Legs facing front but upper body to left corner
Torso Right Corner: Legs facing front but upper body to right
corner
Jumps/Tricks:
Arc Jump: Bend back and knees slightly, arms in lower V extended
back
Bean Roll: Sideways roll with body in fetal position, arms closed
muscleman
C-Jump: Bend back and knees to create C-shape, arms in lower V
extended back
Football Jump: Jump up with knees tucked and spread shoulderwidth apart
Forward Roll: Start in squat and roll forward with legs tucked and
together
Frog Jump: Jump up with feet together and knees tucked and
facing corners
Left Herkie: Jump up with left leg in V-shape and right leg tucked
behind butt
Left Hurdle: Jump up with left leg straight out and right leg tucked
behind butt

Left Scissor Jump: Jump up with left leg in front of body and right
leg behind
Left Split: Split with left leg in front
Pencil Jump: Jump up with legs straight and feet together
Right Herkie: Jump up with right leg in V-shape and left leg tucked
behind butt
Right Hurdle: Jump up with right leg straight out and left leg
tucked behind butt
Right Scissor Jump: Jump up with right leg in front of body and left
leg behind
Right Split: Split with right leg in front
Ripple: One person begins movement and you go when person
before you starts
Spin: Clockwise or counterclockwise on toes with legs together
Star Jump: Jump up with legs in straddle
Toe Touch: Jump up with legs in V shape, arms laydown V
Tuck Jump: Jump up with legs tucked into chest
Kickline Positions:
Back Left Low Angle Kick: Behind body facing back left wall
Back Right Low Angle Kick: Behind body facing back right wall
Fan Kick: High kick with leg swinging from outside to inside
corners
Flexed Foot: Non-pointed foot
High Angle Kick: High kick toward corner
High Kick: Straight out as high as possible
Inverted Fan Kick: High kick with leg swinging from inside to
outside corners

Left Angled Point: Left foot pointed on ground facing left corner
Left Dig: Left toe dug into ground behind right foot
Left Knee: Left foot planted into the groove of right knee, left knee
forward
Left Open Knee: Left leg extended 90-degrees out from body
Left Point: Left foot pointed straight out on ground
Left Sailor: Left leg bent 90-degrees, knees touching, left foot
pointed back
Left Side Point: Left foot pointed on ground facing left wall
Long Connection: Arms behind others shoulders in airplane, right
arm in front
Low Angle Kick: Toward corner inches off the ground
Low Kick: Straight out inches off the ground
Pointed: Foot is pointed to be an extension of the leg
Right Angled Point: Right foot pointed on ground facing right
corner
Right Dig: Right toe dug into ground behind left foot
Right Knee: Right foot planted into the groove of left knee, right
knee forward
Right Open Knee: Right leg extended 90-degrees out from body
Right Point: Right foot pointed straight out on ground
Right Sailor: Right leg bent 90-degrees, knees touching, right foot
pointed back
Right Side Point: Right foot pointed on ground facing right wall
Short Connection: Arms in W behind others backs, right arm on
top
Waist Angle Kick: Toward corner perpendicular to body

Waist Kick: Straight out perpendicular to body


Head Placements:
Clockwise Head Roll: Roll head from right to left shoulder
Counterclockwise Head Roll: Roll head from left to right shoulder
Down: Head faces floor
Left Angle: Head faces front or back left corner
Left Side: Head toward wall over left shoulder
Level: Head straight forward
Nod: Up and down motion of the head
Right Angle: Head faces front or back right corner
Right Side: Head toward wall over right shoulder
Up: Head up toward ceiling
