Exploring Family History
Inquiry:
History
Our Families
Students will learn about their own history and that of their family.
They will build on their knowledge and understanding of how the past
is different from the present.
They will also learn about different families both locally and around the
world, looking at diversity in family structures, and identifying
similarities and differences.
Earth and Science
Weather in my world
Inquiry:
Science and
Geography
Health ,
Civics and
Values
Each day the weather affects our activities. It influences what we wear
and the things we do. This unit links science and geography with
literacy and numeracy in the classroom. Students' beliefs and
understanding about the air, sun and wind will be developed as they
work through hands-on activities. Through investigations, they will
increase their knowledge of how the characteristics of weather affect
their daily lives. They will also develop their geographical skills, using
maps and a globe to locate, identify and investigate places. This will
include aspects of global citizenship particularly relating to
environmental sustainability.
Healthy Lifestyles
Through discussions and activities there will be opportunities to
develop and enhance students knowledge to make informed decisions
about health, safety, nutrition, the media, drugs (medicines) and
more.
The swimming program will also form part of this area of study.
Art
Visual Arts
Students make visual arts works that express and communicate
experiences, observations, ideas and feelings about themselves and
their world. Art sessions are open-ended and creative, focusing on the
study and exploration of a medium and/or technique, as well as
providing opportunities for creative self expression and sensory
experiences.
Students natural tendency to discover both possibilities and limitations
is encouraged through exploring different ways of using visual arts
elements, principles and/or conventions, skills, techniques and
processes, media, materials and technologies.
In term one, our art program will focus on two main areas: painting
and printmaking and 3D construction.
