Activity #3
Rule #2: Adhere to the same standards of behaviour online that you follow in real life.
We should apply the things we learned in our whole life in the internet because internet
is an extension of our social life. We should follow the things that we know that is
morally correct and wrong. Treat the online world just how you treat the things around
you when you are not in the cyberspace. The values, responsibility, social conduct,
great manners and respect should be applied in the online world just how you apply it
on our real world. Blunder, rudeness, impoliteness, indecency, sexual content and
bullying are unacceptable and inappropriate in the online world. If you do things that are
unacceptable you may face various offenses and you may hurt others.
For example, when we are in different places that have a different culture it is easy for
us to obey their rules and their way of living because we fear to disrespect them and not
abide the rules that is strictly implemented in their society. In spite of that, if we are on
our own lawn or on our own house it is easy for us to overrule some rules because we
know that there are no such harsh punishments or we may not disrespect other people
because we are on our own territory. Just like in the online world we must follow our
conducts that we use on an everyday life not just because we are in the internet but we
should be conscious of other people and rules that we interact online. We should apply
the core rule #2 of netiquette because we must be morally correct, a law abiding person
and ethically correct in every places even in the online world.
Rule #7: Keep war flames under control
In the internet various debates and heated topics are unavoidable but in those
discussions heated words are not appropriate to use. We must learn on how to use our
words correctly and not be as subjective on others people characteristic physically and
their own privacy. Every person in the online world must know that they must focus on
the topic and not let their emotions get to them because once you say an inappropriate
word you cant take it back. Others may feel hurt and disrespected just because you
allow your emotions to get into you. Heated topics and discussions should be fun to see
because we may learn a thing or two in those exchanging of opinions however,
sometimes the topic gets into too much heat and gets into their heads and emotions
that is the time that heated topics and discussions online became inappropriate and it
may seem rude if the others people will see the discussion.
By way of illustration, in the social media nowadays the topic of Marcos Burial in the
LNMB is a source of a heated discussion online. Other people may seem to act very
inappropriate because they intend to curse and to implicate other peoples privacy and
their family. This is a good example of the war flames online is not controlled and it
became a rudeness in the eyes of the public. On the up side of the topic, you can see
some that are following the core rule #7 of netiquette because it gives us more
knowledge in the way that they are exchanging their opinions. You can see their strong
point and the will to persuade others people opinion. That is a good thing, because the
way that they give their thoughts makes a strong standpoint that the things that say may
seem right. Imagine, if all of the people on the online world follows this rule, we can
enjoy various opinions and we can enjoy the vast knowledge of every person online.
