CRAZY SPANISH VERBS

INFINITIVO (bezokolicznik in polish) Is the neutral form of every

verb. If you say
I made a great tomato soup today
what do you think is the natural form of the verb made (which here is
conjugated in the past form)?
Of course, (to) MAKE

In Spanish, we have just THREE possible ways to end a verb in the infinitive
form.

-AR

-ER

-IR

What does it mean? Easy If you see a Spanish form ended with -ar
(CANTAR), -er (BEBER) or -ir (VIVIR) you immediatly know that it is a verb.
Its amazing, like a word game!
So we have this basic form for eeeeeeevery spanish verb, but:
If we say (to) MAKE or HACER, we dont know who is making the tomato
soup, or when is being made .
In English it is extremely simple, because if you put the person (YOU) + the
infinitive form (MAKE) , you have . . . . THE PRESENT!
[You make a great tomato soup, man!]

In Spanish its not soooo easy, but still Welcome to....

EL PRESENTE
We have 5 possibilities to conjugate (change the verb depending of who
is making the action and when). Dont be afraid! Theyre logical and not so
hard.
Remember that every Spanish verb in the basic form is ended with -ar, -er,
-ir? In almost every case, if you want to conjugate the verb, you have to
erase this ending:
CANTAR

CANT

...and add something new

Go for it!
1. Exactly as in English, in Spanish we have REGULAR (easy, nice,
simple, kind!) verbs.
Then try this:
-

If the verb is ended in AR (NECESITAR, PREPARAR, INTENTAR,

HABLAR...)
a. Remember, first we erase the ending ar
NECESIT -

PREPAR-

INTENT-

HABL-

b. And then we add these endings:

yo

-o

-as

(NECESITO)
(NECESITAS)
l/ella

-a

(NECESITA)
nosotros/as

-amos

vosotros/as

-is

(NECESITAMOS)
(NECESITIS)
ellos/as

-an

(NECESITAN)
[try yourself with the other verbs (preparar, intentar, hablar),
conjugating for every person in present]
-

If the verb is ended in ER (COMER, BEBER, APRENDER,

PROMETER)
yo
t
l/ella
nosotros/as

-o
-es
-e
-emos

vosotros/as
ellos/as

-is
-en

(COMO)
(COMES)
(COME)

(COMEMOS)
(COMIS)
(COMEN)

[also try!]
-

If the verb is ended in IR (VIVIR, ESCRIBIR, ABRIR, DECIDIR)

yo
t
l/ella
nosotros/as
vosotros/as
ellos/as

-o
-es
-e
-imos
-s
-en

[also try!]
Now, try to translate this sentences:
We eat pizza.
I live in an island.
You (singular) sing Macarena.
They open the beer.
She talks with George Clooney.
You (plural) write Harry Potter.
We prepare a fiesta!

2. We have also IRREGULAR verbs, but....just 2!

SER (to be)
Soy
Eres
Es
Somos
Sois
Son

IR (to go)
Voy
Vas
Va
Vamos
Vais
Van

(VIVO)
(VIVES)
(VIVE)
(VIVIMOS)
(VIVS)
(VIVEN)

[try to create five crazy sentences using different persons of these

two verbs]

3. The next one are...the REFLEXIVE verbs (REFLEXIVOS, ZWROTNE)

What does reflexive mean?
If you say:
I wash your spaceship
Who is washing? Me
What am I washing? Your spaceship
So, the subject (person who is washing) and the object (washed object) are
DIFFERENT.
This is a normal, current, boring verb
But if I say...
I wash myself
Here everything changes!
Who is washing? Me
Who am I washing? Meeeeee.
The SUBJECT and the OBJECT are the same, so its a REFLEXIVE VERB
Example:
You broke his leg (SUBJECT: you, OBJECT: his leg) not reflexive
Cinderella broke her leg running away from the boring prince (SUBJECT:
Cinderella, OBJECT....Cinderellas leg. So...REFLEXIVE.
Now, how should we build these verbs in Spanish? As always...it is pretty
easy!

a. In the infinitive form, this kind of verbs have a special ending -se
LAVARSE , PEINARSE , DESPERTARSE, SENTIRSE

b. This ending changes when we change the person...

I
You
He/She
We
You
They

me
te
se
nos
os
se

c. ...but the verb is conjugated normally the only thing you have to
remember is that the ending se will change its position: it will go
before the verb:
YO ME LAVO (I wash myself)
T TE LAVAS (You wash yourself)
L SE LAVA (He wash himself)
NOSOTROS NOS LAVAMOS (We wash ourselves)
VOSOTROS OS LAVIS (You wash yourselves)
ELLOS SE LAVAN (They wash themselves)

Now try:
-

He washes his dog every (cada) Monday and Thursday.

He washes himself every Monday and Thursday.

I comb my hair everyday (cada da).

I comb your hair when Im at work.

You get up (levantarse)every Monday and Thursday.

You wake up the president every Monday and Thursday.

They feel (themselves) clean every Monday and.....Thursday

You feel the taste (el sabor) of the beer.

4. There is another kind of verbs: they are almost regular, but...the

FIRST PERSON is IRREGULAR.
As a trick, you have to know that every verb that ends in cer
(CONOCER, HACER..) works like this, but not only. In the list I sent to
you, these verbs are marked:
ESTAR

*estoy
TENER *tengo
HACER *hago

The first person is the only one that changes Then:

Yo
T
l
Nosotros
Vosotros
Ellos

*HAGO
HACES
HACE
HACEMOS
HACIS
HACEN

Try yourself!
I am in Mars.
I have three beers but I dont have a bathroom.
I make a cow but Im not God.
I give cows and beers to Marta.
I say interesting things about (sobre) cows and beers.
I know a guy who (que) washes himself on Mondays and Thursdays.

5. And the last ones....the MUTATED ONES! (just like zombies)

They have one particularity: some letters of the infinitive form...change.
On the list, you will find them marked like this:
QUERER (e:ie) to want
So, in the first eyou have to put ie
YO QUIERO
T QUIERES
L/ELLA QUIERE
.
.
.
But here we have one important rule which I like to call THE SNOW BOOT
RULE
This zombie mutation affects just some persons of the verb..the ones which
are INSIDE the boot:

So, if we say it in a more technical way, the 1st and the 2nd person of the
plural are not affected by the mutation
Tryyy!
She wants a cow on Thursday.

She cant have a cow on Monday

You (Dave) have two beautiful bathrooms.
We have three islands, but you (Dave) have four!

They come back on Monday.

You (Dave and Obama) have a big shop with (con) tortilla.

...and thats all you have to know about crazy

Spanish verbs in present...

Just as a conclusion:
