To begin the analyses of well logs on Interactive Petrophysics software,

select the Input/Output tab and load the well logging files that you
have.

You can drag and drop LAS files from your email into IP.
Chooses which curves to load.

Quick plots of the data can be made by selecting one of the predefined plot formats.
In this example, a triple combo plot is used.

The user can zoom into the log by selecting a scale from the scale box.

The far right track shows an overview of the logs. The user can view
any depth in the plot by clicking in this track.

The bottom margin of the plot contains the value of the logs at the
current position of the cursor.

The interpretation is carried out in three parts.

1) Clay volume parameters using multiple clay indicators
2) Porosity
3) Water saturation

Clay Volume Parameters

Selecting the clay volume module presents this screen where the user
can choose the input curves to be used.

Clicking run will show the clay volume plot.

Tracks are created for each clay indicator and also the results.
The vertical lines in the tracks represent the clean and clay parameter
picks. By clicking and dragging these lines, one can move it to a new
position. When the line is released, IP will instantly re-calculate for the
zone and shows the result in the results track.

By right clicking in a track, a menu pops up, where histograms and

crossplots can be selected.

In the histogram, the vertical lines correspond to the interactive lines

on the plot they are also fully interactive. The value of each parameter
is shown at the bottom of the histogram.

The resistivity of clean and clay lines can be moved in the same way.

The neutron-density lines are the best set through the use of a cross
plot.
Choosing a TNPH/RHOB crossplot, the red lines are the clean line and
the clay line. The parameter values are displayed at the base of the
cross plot.

In this well, there is a light hydrocarbon effect. This means the clean
line must be zoned so the slope can be changed in the hydrocarbon
zones.

Zones are created by right clicking the zone track on the left of the plot
and selecting split zone.

Clay indicators can be turned on and off for individual zones by right
clicking I the track and selecting the turn on and off option.

Now, individual parameters can be set for each zone.

Porosity and Water saturation Module

Input curves, default porosity model and default water saturation are
picked here.

The porosity model is chosen.

We then pick the water saturation equation.

Temperature units are also selected here.

After clicking OK, IP asks if you would like to copy zones and
parameters from the Clay Volume modulesay yes.

In the Porosity Water Saturation plot, the second track shows the zones
from the clay module.
The next tracks show the Porosity Input Curvesthe Resistivity
Curves.the Rwapp and Rmf aapp Curves,. The Matrix Density
Curves. Water saturation Curves.Porosity Curves with Moveable
Hydrocarbon Plots. And Lithology Plot with Sand, Clay and Silt.

The program uses default parameters for Rw, a, m, and n which have
to adjusted for the well you are trying to interpret.
Rw can be changed by moving the interactive lines to line up with the
Rw apparent curve in the water zone, or by using a histogram.
Histograms allow setting of Rw in all zones at once. Line up the Rw line
with the wet sand peak. Residual oil has now been removed from the
wet zones. Rmf can be set in the same way using the Rmf Apparent
histogram.

Resistivity clay is best set using a resistivity/Vclay cross plot.

Rxo clay can be set in the same way.

Pickett plots can be used to interactively select Rw and m values.

In the hydrocarbon zones, if your hydrocarbon density is not set right,

your Rhoma reading can be lower than what would be expected. By
moving the hydrocarbon density line, the hydrocarbon density can be
changed to give an average matrix density of around 2.65 g/cc.

The cutoff and summation input window allows the user to select up to
10 input curves to provide discriminators for net reservoir and net pay.

Click Run and copy the zones from the porosity and water saturation
curves.

The 3 main tracks in the window are input discriminator curvesporosity, water saturation and clay volume.
The green flag shows the net reservoir. The red flag shows the net pay.

The porosity cut-off can be set by dragging the cut-off line in the
porosity track.

Right clicking in the track allows access to the histogram.

Dragging the vertical line allows the cutoff to be adjusted.
Clay volume and water saturation cutoff values can be adjusted in a
similar manner.
Cross plots can also be used.: Porosity/Vclay cross plot.

Once the cut-offs are set the well can easily be zoned by splitting the
zones in the zone track.

Zones not required may be deleted.

Parameter listings of the cutoffs used and results can be seen.
Changing the cut-offs on the plot will instantly change the results in
the listing.
