will be provided.
GOALS
In Form and Analysis we will learn to identify and discussarchitectural principles found in
music.
We will develop, explore and expand the tools of analysis you have learned from previous
music theory courses Approaching music with both the small and large scales in mind
while maintaining a flexible approach.
Course content will center upon the organizing principles of music: phrasing, period
structures, themes, transitions, etc. and Classic Forms: Binary Form, Ternary Form,
Sonata Form, Rondo, Theme and Variations.
Music analysis and examples will be drawn from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and
Twentieth-Century periods.
Active participation and the completion of this course will enhance your understanding of
the many intricate relationships created by musical forms as well as the relationship of
musical content to musical form.
