Unit of Inquiry Integrated and Stand-Alone Learning Outcomes

Literacy

Students will be reading informational text about energy sources, then writing explanation text to show advantages and disadvantages of a
chosen energy source.
The students will use digital technology to present their findings on specific given energy source. At the end of the unit, as part of their summative
assessment, students will participate in a debate, where they are required to be an advocate for a given form of energy.

Mathematics

Students will explore shape and space: coordinates and systems of notation for describing position, direction and bearing.
Using a cartesian plane students will be able to give coordinates on each of the quadrants. Once students have mastered this skill they will use a
compass to give directional bearings. The students will understand the significance of recording accurate information, communicating direction
and navigating using given coordinates and?or bearings.

In Music and Strings, students will begin their unit on how signs and symbols are used to communicate ideas. We will focus on scale patterns,
part-playing, contrasts in tempo and duple and triple meter.
