Literacy
Students will be reading informational text about energy sources, then writing explanation text to show advantages and disadvantages of a
chosen energy source.
The students will use digital technology to present their findings on specific given energy source. At the end of the unit, as part of their summative
assessment, students will participate in a debate, where they are required to be an advocate for a given form of energy.
Mathematics
Students will explore shape and space: coordinates and systems of notation for describing position, direction and bearing.
Using a cartesian plane students will be able to give coordinates on each of the quadrants. Once students have mastered this skill they will use a
compass to give directional bearings. The students will understand the significance of recording accurate information, communicating direction
and navigating using given coordinates and?or bearings.

Students will use a range of devices to explore sustainability and energy sources. They will be exposed to an array of applications and websites to
communicate their learning about the central idea.
Arabic A : Students will be learning poems including My Lovely UAE, and The sick sun which links to the unit of inquiry. Students will also
continue to focus on grammar, verbal sentences and dictation roles.
Arabic B students will continue to learn about healthy and unhealthy food. Following this they will begin to learn about language associated with
renewable and nonrenewable energy.
In Music and Strings, students will begin their unit on how signs and symbols are used to communicate ideas. We will focus on scale patterns,
part-playing, contrasts in tempo and duple and triple meter.
Students will be developing running, jumping and throwing skills within an Athletics unit. Students will participate in activities that include sprints,
middle distance runs, modified javelin, vortex throws, long jumps and high jumps. This development is to prepare them for the Grade 5 Sports
Day. Motor skills learned will be applicable and transferable to a variety of other sports and movement based activities.
Visual Arts
Students will explore painting, finding inspiration from modern and contemporary artists in particular. Students will create their own painting with a
specific focus on color and value. The elements of line, shape and space will also be utilized within their individual works.

Students will practice enhancing their problem-solving skills to use when interacting with their peers. Without blaming others, students will be able
to state the problem, think of solutions, explore consequences and pick the best solution in that situation. By moving away from blaming others,
students will be able to identify their personal role in the situation and the positive impact their problem solving skills have to improve the situation.

Students will take pictures, film interviews and take notes to then create an ebook for grade ones Share the Planet unit.
