1. Introduction
This method statement is developed for sewerage reticulation construction work which is
crossing underneath the existing flexible pavement (parking lot area)
2. Scope of Work
The scope of this method statement shall consist: Cutting the existing flexible pavement prior to shoring/trench excavation work for
225mm dia. VCP pipe.
Installation 225mm dia. VCP pipe and sewer manhole.
Backfilling and making good the Dewatering and re-route the drainage route
within the sewer work
3. Work Sequences
The work sequence shall as follow as list below: Preliminaries
Survey and setting out.
Excavation work including sheet pile installations which were deep shoring
excavation work exceeding 3m deep encountered.
Installation of sewer manhole and 225mm dia. VCP pipe
Backfilling and making good
4. Method Statement
4.1 Preliminaries
Prior to proceeding of work, contractor shall mobilize required resources to carry
out works in accordance to the project requirement. Contractor shall ensure that
materials mobilized at site shall as per approved by Consultant.
Upon arrival of materials, Contractor shall check and ensure that relevant
materials delivered are conforming to specification. Materials shall be stock piled
and stored properly as to safe-guard the quality and security.
4.2 Survey and Setting Out
Prior to commencement of site survey and setting out, RFI shall be submitted
accordingly as to comply a project requirement and specification.
Location of manhole and sewer route alignment shall be marking and set out by
using spray paint.
Reduced level for excavation work shall be set out by placing 25mm x 25mm
timber pegs, coloured in red and embedded 300mm into ground.

Pegging and verification of location and level shall be carried out by contractors
surveyor and shall be verified by Engineer.

4.3 Excavation Work

The excavation of sewer route alignment shall be in straight line according to the
setting out given by surveyor.
All excavation works including width, depth and level shall depending on design
as shown in Construction Drawing.
In situation where the invert or location has to be amended, the Contractor shall
inform and request for approval accordingly from Engineer.
Prior to excavation works, the existing flexible pavement shall be cutting to the
sewer alignment trench using rod cutter to reduce damage to pavement.
The excavation works shall be performed in careful manner, with adequate
precaution being taken to prevent / protect any adjacent existing structure or other
underground services against damages.
Dewatering shall be carried out in case a water level rising up into an excavated
trench. Open trench shall be dry at all time prior to proceed with VCP pipes
installation.

4.4 Installation of Vitrified Clay Pipe (VCP)

After completion of trenching, base of trench shall be concrete with 150mm
thickness according to details of construction drawing.
As a base of trench cured, the VCP pipes installation shall carried out accordingly
to the manufacturer instruction.
The gradient of pipe installation shall follow accordingly as indicated on
construction drawing layout (Refer Appendix A).
A concrete encasement shall be carried out as the pipes installation complete.
Vibrator shall be use for compaction to surround a pipes trenching area until
reaching required level as indicated on construction drawing.
4.5 Installation of precast sewer manhole
Once the excavation work for manhole complete and deemed satisfactory, the
base of manhole shall be concrete accordingly.
As a manhole base cured, precast manhole shall be carefully erected to concreted
base by using appropriate tools and machinery.
The depth and invert level of manhole shall be well monitored accordingly.
4.6 Backfilling and making good disturbed structure

Revision: 0

Page No: 4

Backfilling work shall be carried out after concrete encasement had cured up to
the existing flexible pavement level of sub-base layer by using appropriate
compactor machine.
Once backfilling work up to existing sub-base deem satisfactory, sub-grade layer
shall be laid and compacted accordingly.
A bituminous pavement course shall be laid and compacted accordingly to match
up to exiting pavement.
All the thickness of each pavement course layer shall follow accordingly to the
construction drawing issued by consultant.
Any others service and structure which were disturbed during the construction
work shall be rectified accordingly to match with existing.

4.7 Testing
All necessary testing including CCTV test, flushing and sterling shall be done by
the specialist once the sewerage reticulation system completed.
The testing shall meet the S.O and relevant Authority satisfaction and approval.
Any defect to reticulation system shall to make good and leave in perfect order.
5. Machinery/Equipment
Major machinery/equipment for this scope of work shall include: Road cutter
Excavator
Compactor
6. Man Power
The following labour resources shall be deployed to the site for the surveying, excavation
and installation work.
Site Engineer / Supervisor
Safety Representative
Surveyor
Operator
Plumber
General Worker
7. Materials
Material will include:-

8. Safety & Environment

It is our policy to perform all our works with due regard to safety, practice safe working
methods and create a risk free, healthy working environment.
The following key areas construction shall be adhered by all personal, working on-site.
There are not all inclusive set of rules, but guidance of the level of care and attention on
safety matters that every site personals shall observed and follow.
i-

Personal Protective Equipment

The personal protective equipment which will be provided to the workers on
site includes of following:
- Safety Helmets
- Safety Vest
- Safety Harness

ii-

Housekeeping is an essential part of the construct safety. This should be part of

our daily routine. Housekeeping would include the following items :
- Store all materials in safe and orderly manner.
- Avoid littering around the jobsite.
- Do not leave any equipment and material scattered around site area.

iii-

Night Work
- For night work, the area of work shall be adequately lit the facilitate production
works and movements on site. Warning lights, directive signs, reflective aids and
barriers shall be placed at suitable location to forewarn all potential hazards.

In summation, in order to achieve safe, free risk and healthy working environment,
including loss prevention, every practicable step must be taken by each and everyone
engaged in this project site.
