Punishment for Women

in Holy Quraan &

Ahaadeeth
Many warnings are given to women in the Quran and Ahaadeeth
regarding actions which lead to punishment. Holy Rasoul during his
nightly journeys observed with tears in his eyes that the hell is full of
Muslim women who do not maintain their duties to husbands. These
authentic warnings serve as a reminder for the true Muslimah.

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from

looking at forbidden things), and protect their private
parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their
adornment except only that which is apparent (like both
eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of
hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover,
apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e.
their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal
their adornment except to their husbands, or their
fathers, or their husbands fathers, or their sons, or their
husbands sons, or their brothers or their brothers
sons, or their sisters sons, or their (Muslim) women
(i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom
[1]

their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack

vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine
sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal
what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg
Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be
successful
[Holy Quraan al-Noor 24:31]

1. The Curse of Defeminized Women (rajlah)

Hazrat Aishah Siddiqah (radhiyallahu anhanllam) narrates
Verily, Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam1) cursed the rajlah
among women. (Abu Dawood)
The term rajlah is the feminine of rajul which means a man. Thus,
rajlah means a man-woman or a defeminized woman or a masculinized
woman. Hazrat2 Aishah3 (radhiyallahu anha4) said that such women were
cursed by Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Women who emulate
men in their appearance, dress, attitudes, etc., are termed rajlah and the
lanat (curse) of Allah, His Rasool (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and the
Malaaikah perpetually settle on these feminized or masculinized females.
1

sallallahu alayhi wasallam = Peace be upon him.

Hazrat = Saintly
3
Aishah = Ayisha, the Holy Rasouls youngest wife. The Holy Rasoul married her when she was six,
and conducted only thighing practice till she had her periods at the age of nine. Like the Holy Rasool,
Hazarat Aishah was allowed to break rules meant for ordinary Muslimah such as having amorous
contacts with Holy Rasoul during her periods. After Holy Rasoul passed away, Hazrat Aishah was free
to travel without a male companion. She also participated in battles despite this being the domain of
men. This was partly because of her holiness and partly because her Father Hazarat Abu Bakkar
(Radhyallahu anhu) succeeded Holy Rasoul as the rst Caliph. Shii Muslims (May Allahs curse and
punishments be upon them) point out that she and her Blessed Father actually poisoned Holy Rasool
and buried him in secret under the very bed he died to prevent his rightful heir (Hazrat Ali Talib Radhi
Allahu anhu) from taking over. While the actual events do look suspicious, Allah knows Best.

radhiyallahu anha = Allah is pleased with her.

A salient feature of such women is that they vie with males in elds
which Allah Taala has ordained exclusively or primarily for men. They
seek leadership and exposure. They love public platforms and always
crave to exhibit themselves in public. They are generally raucous, loud
and immodest. They detest domestic work and the home-role which
Allah Taala has made Waajib5 for them.
They display the tendencies of lesbians and many of them are in fact
lesbians or female homosexuals. They insist to be in the street and out of
the home in conict with Allahs prohibition:
And remain (glued) inside your homes, and do not make an
exhibition of yourselves like the exhibition (of the women of)
Jahiliyyah.6 (Quraan)
These specimens of humanity cursed by Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi
wasallam) have taken over from the kuffaar the slogan and concept of
the equality of sexes, but there is no such stupid idea in Islam. While
these defeminized women scream the slogan of equality of sexes, the
Quraan explicitly and categorically affirms the superior rank of men
and that males are the rulers of women.
The masculinized women try to push themselves into the forefront
of spheres belonging to males in spite of Rasulullahs order:
5

Waajib is a compulsory act in Islam. The person who neglects a Waajib (compulsory) act without a
valid excuse is is not a Kaar (apostate) but is liable for punishment. Thus a woman who neglects her
womanly Waajib should be punished publicly (but not stoned to death) as prescribed by Sharia Law. In
true Islamic societies such as Saudi Arabia women who neglect their Waajib are dealt with as prescribed.
6
Jahiliyyah. The people/period of ignorance. When a person embraced Islam during the time of the
Prophet, he would immediately cut himself off from Jahiliyyah (the ignorant Arabs). When he stepped
into the circle of Islam, he would start a new life, separating himself completely from his past life under
ignorance of the Divine Law. He would look upon the deeds during his life of ignorance with mistrust
and fear, with a feeling that these were impure and could not be tolerated in Islam! With this feeling, he
would turn toward Islam for new guidance; and if at any time temptations overpowered him, or the old
habits attracted him, or if he became lax in carrying out the injunctions of Islam, he would become restless
with a sense of guilt and would feel the need to purify himself of what had happened, and would turn to
the Quran to mold himself according to its guidance. Sayyid Qutb

[3]

Put them (women) behind just as Allah has put them behind.
Women of this kindmasculinized women, defeminized women,
women with lesbian tendencieswho crave to stand shoulder to
shoulder with men in the public howling slogans, form dangerous
marriage partners. Men of Deeni (true Islamic) consciousness should be
careful when choosing a marriage partner. It is necessary to watch out
for these accursed tendencies and attributes before plunging into
marriage.
Marriage with masculinized women can last only if the husband
buckles and accept the role of a dayyooth (cuckold). Under the
domination of the masculinized woman, a man will have to agree to hand
over his pants to the he-her- to the rajlah-maloonah (the accursed malewoman). All women who compete with men and endeavour to be in
public at the helm are women of this ilk.
The ideal woman of the Quraan and Islam is described by the
Quraan in the following glowing terms: (Such women who are) chaste,
Simple and believing.
The attributes of uprighteous Muslim females are Imaan
(unshakable belief in Allah and his Rasoul), chastity, modesty and
simplicity. They are not like the accursed masculinized or defeminized
women who love public platforms and who detest the home-role for
which Allah Taala has created them. When a woman detests her natural
divinely ordained role, then she must necessarily be unnatural and
abnormal. Since she imitates and emulates men of her own free accord,
Muhammad Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) cursed her. Such
women need to reect and understand the umbrella of divine lanat
which covers them.

2. The Many Forms Of Punishment For Women

Hazrat Ali radiyallahu anhu has stated, I arrived at the blessed
presence of the Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam with Hazrat
Fatimah radiyallahu anha only to nd him uncontrollably crying.
I asked May my parents be sacriced for you, oh Prophet of Allah,
what ails you to cry?
The Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam stated, Oh Ali, the night I
travelled the heavens I saw the women from my followers being
punished in numerous ways, and upon seeing their intense punishment,
I began to cry.
The Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam then described the various
methods of punishment. Hazrat Fatimah radiyallahu anha stood up and
asked, My dear father, and the coolness of my eyes what crimes did these
women commit to warrant for such punishment?
The Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam replied,
My beloved daughter, the woman who was hanging from her hair
did not keep it covered from other men. The woman who was hanging
from her tongue used to distress her husband and the woman who was
hanging from her chest soiled her husbands bed meaning she had illicit
relations with other men. And the woman whose feet were stretched and
bound to her chest with her hands bound to her forehead, and who had
snakes and scorpions set upon her, was the woman who did not keep her
body cleansed of janabat (pollution), haidh (The menses) and who
ridiculed Salaah. And the woman who had the head of a pig and the body
of a donkey was a woman who lied and spoke ill of people behind their
back. And the woman whose face resembled a dog and who entered the

[5]

mouth of a re and came out of the back, was a jealous woman and one
who spoke and boasted of favours conferred.

3. Camel Hump Hijaab Style

The Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wasallam said,
There are two types of the people of Hell that I have never seen:
people with whips like the tails of cattle, with which they strike people,
and women who are dressed but appear naked, walking with an enticing
gait, with their heads looking like the humps of camels leaning to one
side. They will never enter Paradise, nor even smell its fragrance,
although its fragrance can be discerned from such and such a distance.

4. Asking for Divorce for no Apparent Reason

It has been narrated by Hazrat Thawbaan radiyallahu anhu, The
fragrance of Jannat is unlawful upon that woman who asks her husband
for a divorce for no apparent reason.
(Imaam Ahmed, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Maajah and Haakim)

5. Imitation Of Females In Male Attire And Vice Versa

The Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam stated, A woman who dons
male clothing is distant from Allahs mercy, as is a man who dons female
clothing. (Al-Kabaair Lith-thahabi)
[6]

6. Mark of Vulgarity
Maalik bin Uhaimir (radi Allahu anhu) reported that he heard the
Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) saying that Allah (subhana wa
taala) will not accept any good deeds or worship of an immodest and
vulgar person. We asked, O Prophet of Allah! Who is immodest and
vulgar? He replied, A man whose wife entertains non-Mahram men.
[Kashf-ul Astaar An Zawaaid-ul Baraar]

7. Penalty For Trying To Cause Your Spouse Harm

The Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam stated, If a man or a woman
were to spend seventy years in obedience of Allah Taala, but at the time
of death attempt, in a bequest, to cause each other harm (man to woman
or woman to man), hell becomes compulsory upon them. Abu Hurairah
recited the following verses:
After payment of legacies he (or she) may have bequeathed or debts,
so that no loss is caused (to anyone). (4:12)
(Abu Dawud:Abu Hurairah)

8. Penalty For Wearing Perfume Amongst Public

The Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam has stated,
If a woman was to apply perfume to herself, then leave her home
and wander past people who were to catch her fragrance, she would be
sinful of adultery and she would also be sinful of adultery for every
glance she received.
(Ahmad, Nasai and Al-Haakim:Abu Moosa Al-Ashari)

9. Cursing & Being Ungrateful to Husbands

[7]

Hadhrat Abu Saeed Khudri (radhiyallahu anhu) narrated that once

Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) addressing a group of women
said:
O Women! Give Sadqah (Charity) because I have seen you (females)
more in Jahannum.
The women enquired: O Rasulullah! What is the reason for this?
Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: You curse in
abundance and you are ungrateful to your husbands. Furthermore,
despite the deciency in your Aql (intelligence) and your Deen, I have
not seen anyone more capable of making a moron of an intelligent man.
The women asked: O Rasulullah! What is the deciency of our Aql
and our Deen?
Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) replied: What! Is the
testimony of one woman not equal to the testimony of half a man? (In
other words, the testimony of two women equals that of one man.)
Responding, the women said: Yes, O Rasulullah. Rasulullah
(sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: This then is the deciency of the
intelligence of women.
Then Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: Is it not that
when a woman is in the state of haidh neither does she perform Salaat
nor does she fast?
The women said: Yes, O Rasulullah!.
Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) commented: This is the
deciency of your Deen.
(Bukhaari and Muslim)

10. Angels curse the Disobedient Wife

Narrated by abu huraira: allahs apostle said, if a husband calls his
wife to his bed (i.e. to have sexual relation) and she refuses and causes
him to sleep in anger, the angels will curse her till morning. [Muslim]
[8]

11. Leaving Home Without Husbands Consent

The Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam stated, A woman becomes
distant from Allahs mercy when she leaves the home without her
husbands consent. (Al-Kabaair Lith-thahabi)
