Second west end sex attack

A SHOCKING HOMOPHOBIC
attack may lead to a number of
students being permanently banned
from the Glasgow University Union,
Guardian has learned.
The attack, which took place at a
union party closing Freshers’ Week,
has been condemned in the strongest
terms by students across campus.
Witnesses described how a young
male couple embracing inside the
club were surrounded and heckled by
drunken freshers helpers, breaking
up the party and forcing an early end
to the night.

GUU President Dave Calder
said he was personally appalled by
the incident, and confirmed that
the Union would be dealing with it
as rigorously as their constitution
allows.
He said: “I think it’s shocking.
It tarnished the whole week after we
had a great Freshers’ Week across
campus, and it will not be tolerated
in this building.
“We absolutely don’t condone
that kind of behaviour. Anyone who
acts like that will (cont. page 4)
A sex attack on a young
woman has shocked the west end,
just two weeks after a 20 year old
female was raped on the University
campus. A 46 year old man has been
arrested in connection with the latest
assault, which took place earlier this
month in a lane off Kersland Street,
next to Byres Road.
Detectives said that the man had
befriended the 21 year old woman

and chatted to her to gain her confi-
dence before attempting to indecently
assault her, early on the morning of
Thursday October 4th. The woman
was able to fight off her attacker after
he dragged her into a lane.
Police have renewed their appeal
for information regarding the earlier
rape, which took place during
Freshers’ Week. The West End CID
are seeking a thin white male of
approximately five feet ten inches
(1.54m) in height, who was wearing
light coloured clothing.
