Pepsi is an American carbonated soft drink produced and manufactured by PepsiCo,

which also owns well-known brands such as Walkers crisps, Doritos, Tropicana, 7UP, Mountain
Dew, Naked Juice and Nobbys Nuts. PepsiCo, Inc. is an American multinational food, snack
and beverage corporation headquartered in Purchase, New York. PepsiCo has interests in the
manufacturing, marketing and distribution of grain-based snack foods, beverages and other
products. PepsiCo was formed in 1965 with the merger of the Pepsi-Cola Company and FritoLay, Inc. Based on net revenue, PepsiCo is the second largest food and beverage business in the
world.
The drink Pepsi was first introduced as "Brad's Drink" in New Bern, North Carolina, United
States, in 1893 by Caleb Bradham, who made it at his drugstore where the drink was sold. It was
renamed Pepsi Cola in 1898, named after the digestive enzyme pepsin and kola nuts used in the
recipe. The original recipe also included sugar and vanilla. In 1903, Bradham moved the bottling
of Pepsi-Cola from his drugstore to a rented warehouse. That year, Bradham sold 7,968 gallons
of syrup. The next year, Pepsi was sold in six-ounce bottles, and sales increased to 19,848
gallons.
In 1909, Pepsi was advertised by a famous racer at the time, who described the drink as
A bully drink refreshing, invigorating, a fine bracer before a race. The slogan for the
advertisement campaign was Delicious and Healthful, which was used for over 20 years.
During 1922 & 1933, The Coca-Cola Company was offered a chance to buy the Pepsi-Cola
company, and it declined on three separate occasions. In 1926, Pepsi had its first logo redesign
since the original design in 1905, and only three years later, the logo was changed again. From
the early 1930s, Pepsi-Colas most used slogan was Pepsi-Cola Hits the Spot which was
used again for over 20 years.
Pepsi has been featured in several films, including Back to the Future Part
II (1989), Home Alone (1990), Wayne's World (1992), Fight Club (1999), and World War
Z (2013). In late 2008, Pepsi overhauled its entire brand, simultaneously introducing a new logo
and a minimalist label design. The redesign was comparable to Coca-Cola's earlier simplification
of its can and bottle designs. Pepsi also teamed up with YouTube to produce its first daily
entertainment show called Poptub.

In 1975, PepsiCo set up a blind tasting between Pepsi-Cola and rival Coca-Cola, during
these blind taste tests, the majority of people picked Pepsi their favourite of the two. This was
advertised world-wide for many years where more and more people agreed that Pepsi was the
better tasting cola. The Coca-Cola Company has historically been considered PepsiCo's primary
competitor in the beverage market, and in December 2005, PepsiCo surpassed The Coca-Cola
Company in market value for the first time in 112 years since both companies began to compete.
Pepsi has official sponsorship deals with four major North American professional sports
leagues. Over the years, PepsiCo has used many celebrities to advertise Pepsi, some of these
include: Joan Crawford, Cindy Crawford, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera,
Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, One Direction and Beyonc.
In the United States, Pepsi is made with carbonated water, high fructose corn
syrup, caramel color, sugar, phosphoric acid, caffeine, citric acid and natural flavors. A can of
Pepsi (12 fl ounces) has 41 grams of carbohydrates (all from sugar), 30 mg of sodium, 0 grams
of fat, 0 grams of protein, 38 mg of caffeine and 150 calories. Sierra Mist gave Pepsi its first
national lemon-lime brand. Pepsis flagship brand now had company with one-calorie Pepsi
ONE; Pepsi Twist, featuring a twist of lemon; Pepsi Vanilla; and Pepsi Edge, a cola with half the
calories and sugar of regular colas.
Today, the company continues to innovate, creating new products, new flavors and new
packages in varying shapes and sizes to meet the growing demand for convenience and healthier
choices. Pepsi is constantly on the lookout for ways to ensure that our consumers can get the
products they want, when they want them and where they want them.

COKE VS. PEPSI

Coke and Pepsi are the two leading brands of beverages that may be classified as soda,
pop or soft drinks. Cokes original name was Coca-Cola and Pepsis was Pepsi-Cola. Coke and
Pepsi were both created before 1900. Coke was invented in Atlanta by pharmacist John
Pemberton in 1886. Pepsi also was created by a pharmacistCaleb Bradham from New Bern,
North Carolina, in 1898.
The original ingredients of Coca-Cola were intended to have health benefits and be
refreshing. Coca-Cola contained coca leaves and kola nuts, known to promote energy. Coca
leaves, from which cocaine derives, was a primary ingredient, but were fully removed from the
formula by 1929. Pepsi-Cola was originally coined Brads Drink in honor of its creator. The
premise of the original formula is the ingredients emulated Pepsin, and digestion aid. It did not
contain kola nut.
Coca-Cola originally cost 5 cents a glass. An Atlanta businessman secured the rights to
the product by 1891. It was first bottled in a plant in 1894. Pepsi-Cola bottling started out in
Bradhams pharmacy basement. The company was incorporated in 1905 and the name
trademarked in 1906. A bottling plant was established in 1908.
Over the years, both companies have seen worldwide expansion of their markets, which
include varying lines of beverages, apparel and paraphernalia with their respective logos. Both
have grown into longstanding global industry leaders.
