01 Malati Case

Malati runs a boutique in a city. Rekha, a film star, is one of her oldest customers. Malatis clientele are
film stars and rich families. Malati designs costly dresses for her customers. As her customers are from
high class in the society she designs only one dress of each type. Press buffs in the city have realized that
Malatis boutique is gaining publicity day by day. Malati designs a pink dress for Rekha to attend a film
awards function. Next day, a photo of Rekha, in pink dress, receiving the award appears in the press. But
to the astonishment of Malati, Rekha calls on her next day and said Malati, this pink dress does not suit
on me. As such I wore a velvet dress for the function. Will you please take this pink dress back? Of course,
I had not worn it at all. What should Malati do?

02 Sumati Case
Sumati is girl from Despur village. Due to poor financial background and large family at home, she barely
managed to study till Arts from a neighboring city. Motivated to achieve something in life coupled with
educational and economical constraints she manages to get a clerical job in Jairam Industries. Here she
meets Bhaskar as her superior. Slowly Bhaskar takes a liking to her. So he gives her little or no work or
some personal work. She gets complacent. Her pending job started pilling up. Finally the day comes when
the CEO decides to sack her. Now what should be her plan of action?

03 Liston Case
Liston, a cotton textile and yarn manufacturing company wants to shift its plant from Murray to a
southern city called Farkley, owing to high manpower costs at Murray.
Soon they opened an office at Farkley . The construction work of work of the plant was in process. They
give an invitation for the recruitment of personnel. They select 260 persons. The machinery is to be
installed in about 6 weeks.
At Farkley, there are other companies, which do not maintain good working conditions for employees &
also pay less. So employees of these companies also applied for Liston. The other companies consider this
serious enough & they complain that Liston is raiding their efficient labour force.
One of these companies is in the marketing channel of Liston & if Liston loses this company, 18 % of their
market share will be eroded. There is the other danger of some friendly companies of this marketing
company also leaving the marketing channel of Liston.
What should Liston do?

04 Bindaas Group Case


A Bindaas group of ten students of Delahi University plan to go on a motorbike expedition to the nearby
hill station Umla on a three-day break. On the way to the hill station they have to go through village
hamlet. One of the two vehicles, which were cruising ahead of the other three, hits a child in the village
and fail to stop. Meanwhile the villagers come to know about the incident. For the students this is the
only route to come back. The group has five girls whose safety had to be taken care of. If you are the
member of this Bindaas group riding the other three vehicles what will you do?

05 Ram Case
Ram, a trade union leader at a color TV plant SIMPLEBLUE at Rampur, had been working for the company
for past 28 years. The company had been started 35 years ago with Japanese collaboration, who had
pulled out of collaboration later. SIMPLEBLUE had started various other plants in different parts of the
country, with much more modern technology. Since the company realized that the technology at Rampur
was outdated, they planned to shut down this plant. To do this, they offered VRS to employees who were
reluctant to accept. So the company called Ram and offered him a lot of benefits if he could get the
employees to accept VRS. The employees were also given a choice of relocation with a lower pay
structure. But the employees did not accept. Ram was nearing his retirement age. His two sons were well
settled. So on that day, he went home as usual and was pondering over the possible solution. By next
morning 5 am, he worked out a solution. At 6 am when he was watching news at his residence, he came

to know of a fire at the plant, which had destroyed it. The cause for this was stated to be short circuit.
What should Ram do now?

06 Sunil Mohapatra Case


Sunil is a Corporate Head (HR) in a company who is very nice and gets along well with all people. People
often consult him for help and advice. One day Mr. Mohapatra approaches him for a job because he is
right now jobless. Sunil takes his qualifications & skills and asks him to come after a week.
However, since no job available, he keeps frequently postponing the job offer. Mr. Mohapatra keeps
visiting Sunil often and becomes his close friend.
Then, one day, Mr. Mohapatra confides with Sunil "I was in prison for 18 years for a crime that I had not
committed. When two years remaining of the sentence, I ran away from jail. Even now, police is in look
out for me."
Sunil tells Mr. Mohapatra to go home and that he would give him a job.
However as soon as he leaves, Sunil calls up the police and gives the details of Mr. Mohapatra and asks
them to arrest him.
Because of this betrayal of trust by the HR head, people in the organization have started losing faith in
Sunil. A senior person in the office complains to the Managing Director that Sunil has "broken faith" so,
others could not come to him.
Assume that you are the Managing Director of the company. What would you do about the situation?

07 Joey and Ross Case


Two friends Joey and Ross are studying in a reputed Business School. They are working on the same
finance case but for different groups. Joey has been assigned the task of his group and is not making much
progress. He approaches Ross for help. Ross emails him the report and asks him to delete the mail after
reading it.
Next day Prof. Bob (Prof. of this finance case) reads the two solutions and finds them to be exactly
similar. He calls the two students and they confess the truth.
The national Faculty council advices that according to the rules of institute both the groups should be
disqualified. You are the Prof. Bob, what should you do?

08 Dam Statue case


A dam if built would provide irrigation for 95000 acres and would provide water to 150 villages. However
the construction necessitates complete removal of eight villages and rehabilitation of 20 other villages. It
would submerge a statue of Rishi Bhrigu, which is very revered and visited by thousands every year.
Another design provides 12% more land with irrigation water but causes 2.5% increase in the cost of
construction. And it would completely wash away the statue. People are very adamant. They are totally
against dam construction. What should you do in this situation?

09 Pharmaceutical company
Johnson is the head of RND dept of a MNPC pharmaceutical company. Dozage is the supplier of liquid
glucose which is a raw material for a product. It is found that this glucose forms hazy "fungus" like
substance which is not actually fungus. Whether it is harmful is not known. Dozage is most renowned
supplier and has a very good past record. There are other 2 suppliers who are not dependable and are
new suppliers, but have liquid glucose supplies which dont form the hazy substance. Johnson studies the
samples of all 3 suppliers and finds 2 of the new suppliers satisfactory and is wondering why Dozage didnt
inform MNPC about this hazy substance.
What should Johnson do?
10 Technological Management Institute
ITMI is Govt. of Indias leading Technological Management Institute. It not only teaches general
management skills but also have a great emphasis on latest technologies in the country as well as in the
world. The placements in ITMI are always the Best among all the B Schools in the country. It also has high
media coverage. Recently the Govt. alleges that the institute has not done to strengthen the

technological management capabilities in the country. Like last few years, this year the placement is over
with mostly MNCs and few Indian companies coming in to the campus. The media cell secretary worries as
to whether he should disclose this placement info to the media? As it would invite Govt.'s ire and not
disclosing placements and salaries would place the competitive management institutes ahead in this year's
placements and hence prospective bright candidates may prefer other institutes.
11 Sundars band
Sundar is head of Cultural Activities Guy wants to have some famous rock group perform on the last day of
his college cultural festival, of which he is in charge or something. His college Director thinks there will
be trouble as these people are very famous, but guy persists (they have the resources for this) and
Director not in favour but agrees, and absolutely refuses to have anything to do with it. And if anything
goes wrong, blame rests on guys head and no more fests for the college. On the night of the rock show,
the bands flight arrives late, theres a traffic jam, and its already very late. A 10,000 strong crowd is
waiting for them. Guy calls SP and asks for road clearance for them, SP says ok but get Director to request
for it. What should guy do?
