PROJECT SYNOPSIS

Description of the project The Online Book Store (OBS) application enables vendo
rs to set up online book stores, customers to browse through the books, and a sy
stem administrator to approve and reject requests for new books and maintain lis
ts of book categories. Also on the agenda is designing an online book site to ma
nage the items in the store and also help customers purchase them online without
having to visit the shop physically. Our online book store will use the interne
t as the sole method for selling books to its consumers. The consumer will be in
complete control of his/her shopping experience by using the unique storefront co
ncept. Purpose
Today the internet and its boom have created a new economic scenario that not on
ly stresses on the classical concept of the product but also on the modern concept
of service. It is this level of service that dictates whether a commercial ventur
e will succeed or not in the market. To provide a high accessibility of service
we will design the online shopping website, so that potential customers need not
go to a physical shop to buy books. They just need to online to complete their
purchases. Most current systems have a physical foundation that is the root caus
e to quite a number of problems. By maintaining multiple store

fronts, itself being an expensive proposition, store prices are forced to rise.
Thus, by using our product, our clients competitors are at a disadvantage because
their costs are significantly higher than our costs, allowing our clients to se
ll the same books at a lower price. As people become more accustomed to using th
e internet, they view ordering products and services online as a time-saving and
cost-saving experience, which is the very essence of our online book store. Tar
get Users 1) Administrator:-The Administrator is the super user and has complete
control over all the activities that can be performed. The application notifies
the administrator of all book requests, and the administrator can then approve
or reject them. The administrator also manages the list of available book catego
ries. Customer/Guests:- A Mall Customer can browse through the books and choose
them to place in a virtual shopping cart. The shopping cart details can be viewe
d and items can be removed from the cart. To proceed with the purchase, the cust
omer is prompted to login. Also, the customer can modify personal profile inform
ation (such as phone number and shipping address) stored by the application. The
customer can also view the status of any previous orders, and cancel any order
that has not been shipped yet.

he items that are there in each category of products like Fiction, Non-fiction,
Drama, Magazines, etc. Adequate searching mechanisms for easy and quick access t

particular book.
Creating a Shopping cart so that customers can shop n no. of item
s and checkout finally with the entire shopping carts
Customers should be able t
o mail the store about the items they would like to see in the store.
Regular up
dates to registered users of the website about new arrivals. Secured mechanism f
or checking out from the Shop (Credit card verification mechanism)
Updates to cu
stomers about the recently added items in the store through various mechanisms.
Uploading Most Purchased Items in each category of books in the Store like Fiction
, Non-fiction, Drama, Magazines, etc. Give special discounts to Premier customer
s Feedback mechanism, so that customers can give feedback for the book which the
y have purchased. Also facility rating of individual products by relevant custom
ers. Also feedback can be given on the performance of particular vendors and the
entire store as well.
Adequate payment mechanism and gateway for all popular cr
edit cards, cheques and other relevant payment options, as available from time t

server side scripting language for developing and running PHP based web applica
tions on an application server. HTML, XML: Hyper Text Markup Language and Extens
ible markup Language are the predominant markup languages for web pages. It prov
ides a means to describe the structure of textbased information in a document an
d to supplement that text with interactive forms, embedded images, and other obj
ects. JAVASCRIPT: Javascript is a client side scripting language for validation
purposes and client side event handling.

stem for Windows and Linux OS and Apache server that delivers a flexible and cos

reamweaver 8: Dreamweaver is a toolkit which is designed for the creation of mor
