with 4 leveled reading groups (based on fluency
assessment and Accelerated Reader levels). Two higher
level reading groups have 6 students in each and two
lower level reading groups have 5 students in each.
*Helped having them in leveled groups to assist them in
what they needed.* Had partner work based upon the
story from the reading group. Students paired with
differing levels to offer support. *Went well over all, will
continue for reading and possibly other content areas.
~Reflection on struggling student and possible areas of
support. ~EL students started receiving services this week
and rest of class works on misc. items while they're gone.
Would like to find an area for students to work on that
won't be detrimental for EL students to miss. Possibly
Social Studies? Might brainstorm with 2nd grade team at

stations and there were a lot of different activities at the
centers and students were using multiple strategies and
forms of learning/variety.
~Reflection-collaborating and working well with grade
level teammates, has support from admin without being
micro-managed. Feeling supported and encouraged.

balancing school, work, family, etc. Hoping to have more

If your PT is wanting to earn the units for the induction
program, then yes, go ahead and add a separate time
for PT hours. She will need a total of 60 hours....which
should be very easy since collaboration should be at
least 1 hour per week, plus and additional 15 hours of
professional development. Her individual time working
on the modules will count as well.

Eden, thank you for your thorough log entries. Yay! Glad
I'm doing it correctly! :)
Reflection ~ PT gave the pretest last week to current math
unit. Her goal is to give the post test before the end of this
week or when returning from break. She feels that the
pretest will give her a good idea of where her students are
and what she needs to work with them on before giving
the post test. Since giving the pretest, she's been
differentiating for each student in small group stations.
These small group stations occur every Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday in the afternoons. Other than
grade level discussion and collaboration with her
teammates, PT has not done any formal inquiry research
yet but plans to get a lot done during the break. PT is

is next Tuesday, further reflection to follow. PT tried a new
game/activity that the students loved, that enabled her to
differentiate her instruction. The first attempt was not very
successful, there were too many beginning leveled
students and they weren't able to assist each other. After
reconfiguration, the groups worked successfully and were
engaged, as well as excited about math .
PT has been reading Master's course materials regarding
differentiation. Through her reading she has learned a new
approach to groupings, wherein it maintains that the way
in which a student learns should be a factor in the
grouping versus only using test scores. She has identified
a potential student grouping that she believes needs to be
reevaluated.
Post test scores from previous math assessment were
excellent. PT was able to reteach in small groups due to
stations/differentiation, so that each student could focus
on areas needing improvement. PT is pleased with the

PT and Mentor met with site principal for the Triad Meeting
to discuss ILP goal and inquiry question. Admin asked
several questions regarding PT's current differentiation
practice, ideas of how to achieve the goal/inquiry, and how
she identifies the needs of her students. PT was able to
answer all questions asked and develop a plan to achieve
her SMART goal. Admin gave a few suggestions as
differentiation. PT was receptive to admin suggestions and
questions.
Reflection~ PT is giving Unit 4 math test tomorrow, 3 digit
addition using math strategies. She gave the pretest and
discovered that her students were really lacking the ability

to find the missing addend. She focused on that for about
3 days whole group and then broke off into small stations
so she was able to differentiate for her beginning students.
She found that their grasp on place value isnt what it
needs to be in order to understand number line / finding
the missing addend. PT worked on place value for quite
some time with that beginning group. When returning
from break, she plans to continue to work with place value
with the lower kids in small group. Place value was Unit 2
and some have still not mastered that concept. PT
collaborated with her grade level mentor, who has a few
manipulative activities that PT will try with her students.
PT is continuing inquiry research and classroom
implementation. PT is planning on using time over break to
dive deeper into research and find more strategies and
differentiation ideas to utilize when school resumes in
January, the last month before the end of the inquiry cycle.
