INFORMATIVE SPEECH PLAN


Title: How to Get Rid of USB Viruses
Specific Speech Purpose: To inform my Communication III class on how to remove computer
viruses from a flash drive.
Statement: There are two ways to remove viruses from a flash drive.
INTRODUCTION

Attention Step: Do you have a flash drive or what is commonly referred to as USB? Did
it ever get infected with a virus? What is the next thing you did with it? Maybe you
formatted it, right? But did you know that formatting your flash drive does not always

completely remove the viruses in it?


Clarification Step: Yes, formatting flash drives does not mean the viruses will be totally
cleaned. However, there are two ways with which we can easily remove viruses from our
flash drives.
BODY

Viruses can be removed from a flash drive using an antivirus software.


A. Disable the Autoplay feature of USB drives to prevent the virus from spreading.
1. Navigate to control panel by clicking the start button
2. In the control panel window, type in autoplay in the search box and press
Enter to view the Autoplay options.
3. Clear the Use AutoPlay for all media and devices check box and click Save

Connect the flash drive by inserting it into a USB port on the computer.
Open File Explorer, then double-click This PC.
Right-click on the removable disk/drive, then scan it with an antivirus software.
When the scan is completed and threats are detected, select Delete among the

options on what action to apply.


Viruses can be removed from a flash drive using command prompt.
A. Disable the Autoplay feature of USB drives to prevent the virus from spreading.
1. Navigate to control panel by clicking the start button
2. In the control panel window, type in autoplay in the search box and press
Enter to view the Autoplay options.
3. Clear the Use AutoPlay for all media and devices check box and click Save
to turn Autoplay off.
B. Open the run dialog box, and type cmd to open Command Prompt.
C. In the Command prompt window, type in the drive letter and hit Enter.
D. Type in dir /w/a, and press Enter to display a list of the files in the pen drive.

E. Check for suspicious files, such as Autorun.inf, Ravmon.exe, New Folder.exe,


svchost.exe, or any other exe file which may be suspicious.
F. In Command prompt, type attrib -r -a -s -h *.* and press Enter to remove the Read
Only, Archive, System and hidden file attribute from all the files.
G. Delete all the suspicious files using the command del followed by the filename.
H. Open your flash drive; all of the files should return to normal.
CONCLUSION
Summary Step: Now that you know two ways to remove viruses from your flash drive, I hope
that you wont be using what you know to take too much risk in downloading and copying files
that maybe harmful. Remember that the best way that you can get rid of these USB viruses is
through preventing and avoiding them.
