INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO USE A MILLING MACHINE

Milling machines are very versatile. They are usually used to machine
flat surfaces on square or rectangular parts, but can also produce
many unique and irregular surfaces. They can also be used to drill,
bore, produce slots, pockets and many other shapes.

Basic machine parts

Do not make contact with the revolving cutter.


Use suitable guards to protect yourself from possible injury.
Use the buddy system when moving heavy attachments.
Do not attempt to tighten nuts when the machine is working.
When installing or removing milling cutters, always wear
protection gloves to prevent cutting your hands.
6. While setting up work, install the cutter last to avoid being cut.
7. Never adjust the workpiece or work mounting devices when the
machine is operating.
8. Remove chips from the workpiece with an appropriate rake and
a brush.
9. Shut the machine off before making any adjustments or
measurements.

When using cutting oil, prevent splashing by using
appropriate splash guards. Cutting oil on the floor can cause a
slippery condition that could result in operator injury

Grammar: Imperative

To give instructions we use the imperative in English


In the affirmative, it is the same as the infinitive of a verb
e.g. Stop! (Para!) Be careful! (Ten cuidado)
For emphasis we use ALWAYS before the infinitive
e. g. Always stop when the traffic light is red!
In the negative: Dont + infinitive
Dont touch the revolving cutter
(No toques la fresa cuando gira)
For emphasis we use NEVER before the infinitive
Never use the milling machine without safety goggles
(Nunca uses la fresadora sin gafas de proteccin)

safety instructions. Change the imperative if
necessary so that the sentences make sense.
1. Dont wear safety goggles at all times ,by everyone in
the shop!
2. You can wear long sleeves, no gloves, no open toe
shoes, and no jewelry or watches.

3. Become thoroughly familiar with the machine before


operating it!
4. When in doubt, never ask a supervisor or
shopmanager!
5. Always use the mill(or any other equipment) when
tired or rushed for time!
6. Only attempt work that you have been approved to do
and are comfortable doing!
7. Never reach anywhere over,around or near any
rotatingcutter(s)!
8. Dont use a chip shield to keep chips from hitting you
and/or others in the area!
9. Be distracted or talk to others when operating the
machine.
