Tutor-Marked Assignment 1
Instructions
1. This assignment covers topics in Units 1 and 2 of the EED510/05 course materials.
2. The total marks for TMA1 are 100 and contribute 20% to the total grade.
3. Please note that this is an individual assignment.
4. You are expected to include a references section listing out all the relevant resources you have
consulted in completing this assignment. The references and in-text citations should be in APA
(American Psychological Association) style. Marks will be deducted for inappropriate
style.
5. Your assignments are to be submitted via the Online Assignment Submission (OAS) System. The
deadline for TMA1 submission is 3 September 2016 @ 23:59. If you need to apply for extension,
please do so before the deadline.
6. Submit your TMA to Turnitin to generate your Originality Report. It is important that you
know that evidence of plagiarism will be taken seriously. Please read through the Universitys
definitions of plagiarism and collusion. Reminder: Turnitin submission is not considered as OAS
submission.
i. Please NOTE that Turnitin submission is NOT the same as OAS submission. You DO NOT
need to submit your Turnitin Originality Report to OAS anymore. However, you are
highly encouraged to passage your TMA to the Turnitin system before submission, to
encourage honest academic writing and it is not mandatory except for project courses. As
a rule of thumb, a similarity index of 30% and above is NOT ACCEPTABLE and must be
reviewed. Bear in mind the consequences of subsequent submission of your TMA in Turnitin
(more than once) as the Turnitin Originality Report will take at least 24 hours or more. So, please
PLAN wisely your TMA submission in order to prevent passing the deadline for submission.
7. Attach (using Insert object) or zip the Turnitin Originality Report together with your TMA.
This combined file must be submitted through the Online Assignment Submission (OAS)
system. We do not accept submissions through hard copies.
8. Please adhere to the guidelines below for assignment submission:
i. The manuscript should be typewritten using Times New Roman, font size 12 with 1.5 spacing
throughout the manuscript, on the A4-sized layout with the left and right margins set to 2 cm and
top and bottom margins set respectively to 1.7 cm and 2 cm.
ii. A cover sheet with the students name, course code and course name should accompany the
assignment. It can be found in the TMA section in the LMS.
iii. Your response should be logically divided into sections and subsections.
iv. Indicate the word count of your answer at the end of the assignment.
v. Wikipedia and your course materials cannot be counted as part of your references.

TMA Task
Critically differentiate the role of a teacher as a moral exemplar and as a moral actor. Then,
discuss teachers rights in the context of education in Malaysia with examples in about 1500
words.
Tips to answer the assignment:
Introduction: (5%)
- Provide an overview of the assignment/discussion.
Discussion: (60%)
- Teacher as a moral exemplar vs Teacher as a moral actor (30%)
Define what is teacher as a moral exemplar.
Define what is teacher as a moral actor.
Justify with explanation of how are they different from each other.
Give an example each from the Malaysian context if possible.
- Teachers rights (30%)
List and explain the rights of teachers.
Use examples from the Malaysian context to justify your ideas.
Conclusion: (5%)
- Summary of the discussion
- Personal opinions or comments
The content of the assignment accounts for 70% as shown above whereas the other 30% are
awarded for writing style as follows:
Organisation & Presentation of Points (10%)
- Clarity
- Coherence sentences and paragraphs
- Adherence to prescribed format such as use of sub headings, paragraphing and
adherence to word count.
Language use & Grammar (10%)
- Correct grammar usage
- Evidence of correct spelling
- Presence of correct punctuations
- Appropriate choice of vocabulary
Referencing (10%)
- Evidence of sufficient references to at least 5 authoritative and relevant sources in
discussion.
- Adherence to correct APA style in in-text citations and bibliography entries
