Reflecting on
Teaching

Ms. Metelitz uses partner-work and group work. The students who are weaker
language wise are enriched and encouraged by the higher language students
who lead the group. She uses visible thinking exercises in class in order to
prompt student thinking and help students become more observant and make
inferences throughout the lesson. Ms. Metelitz, by nature, is reflective and
always wants to improve. She brainstorms ways that she can better reach her
students in their core subject areas. Ms. Metelitz has followed up on her Formal
Observations with a written reflection. In addition, she has made amendments
and improvements to her lessons as a result of suggestions and observation
feedback.

between teacher and student. Additionally, she takes attendance data daily on
Infinite Campus. Ms. Metelitz maintains a written lesson plan book and utilizes
multiple curriculum materials for her ENL Standalone group. Ms. Metelitz keeps
a parent contact log for parents phone calls and meetings.

Showing
Professionalism

Ms. Metelitz has completed 9.0 PDP courses as of December 2015. Because it is
the ENL teachers responsibility to complete fifty percent of her professional
development focus on ENL, two of the three courses were courses given by Half
Hollows ENL Director, Lori Campbell. One of the two PDP Courses focused on
the new New York State ENL laws which went into effect the 2015-2016 school
year, the CPART 154. This course focused on the changes which took place. The
other ENL PDP course focused on collaboration between the ENL teacher and
the English teachers in Half Hollow. This time was utilized as a way for ENL
Teachers and English teachers to plan as well as learn about the expectations
for the district. Additionally, Ms. Metelitz attended the Long Island Teachers
Institute at the Melville Marriot on December 4th, 2015. The focus of the
conference was Creating, Collaborating & Designing: Fostering Academic
Achievement for English Language Learners. This conference was beneficial in
not only collaborating and learning about different ENL Methodologies but also
gaining some camaraderie among other ENL teachers on Long Island.
Ms. Metelitz is prompt in her arrival to West Hollow each morning, as noted by
the written attendance recorded in the main office. Ms. Metelitz utilizes the
Infinite Campus system for student absences and tardies. She maintains a
professional tone with students in the hallways encouraging them to move
along to class, slow down, or behave appropriately, based upon school policy.
Ms. Metelitz dresses professionally and maintains professional relationships
with teachers and support staff.
