Editing Plan
Prior to beginning the editing process I have researched into the software
Final Cut Pro X. Whether that be from watching YouTube tutorials or looking
as shortcuts on the Apple website itself, I have used this information and put it
to practise utilising stock footage. From doing this test I have made notes on
various elements that could be used in preparation of editing the final product.
Visuals:
Straight Cut These will be used to transition from one shot to the next. In
doing so this will demonstrate the comprehension of a clear narrative which
will furthermore make the film easy to follow by audience members.
Cut to Black This will be used to demonstrate how Amy is leaving behind
her old life. The colour black is normally associated with death and worn at
funerals therefore by using this it connotes the death of the life she knew.
Fade in This will be used to show where Amy begins her new journey after
leaving home. Transitioning from her leaving home to this new scene it wont
tire the audience with unneeded footage of her walking for a long period of
time. As well as this, the connotations of this specific part tie in with the
phrase when one door closes another one opens. By opening up on the
bridge scene after cutting to black this connotes how shes on top of the
world looking down upon everyone driving by.
Flashbacks Adding to the list of reasons for her inevitable leave, this scene
is a key part in our production. Showing the difference between this and the
main footage will be a task but with the use of filters and colouring I can make
them differentiate from each other.
Pace The pace will be dictated by key events happening within the film. E.g.
when she is smoking during the beginning it will be slow paced compared to
her suicide attempt during the flashback which will be fast paced.
Focus Pulls These will be used to transition to the flashback bathroom
scene. This will make it highly apparent to the audience that it is a flashback
as well as it being a good way to transition between the two scenes. The focal
point will be a bottle of pills which has a deep meaning towards our main
protagonist.
Colour Correcting As filming will be done over consecutive days as well as
allowing for time to refilm parts (if needed) the colouring will be different from
shot to shot. When practising on stock footage I learned how to rectify this by
utilising the colour match tool which will be beneficial in making our film look
seamless.
Filters As well as colour correcting, filters need to be added to create the
intended mood/atmosphere for our selected genre. I did this at first on stock
footage by creating the look I wanting using various filters and colour solids

then copying the effects over to the rest of the clips. Filters are also crucial to
our film as they will help differentiate contrasting scenes. For example I could
use a white solid over the flashback sequence to give it a dream like feel
compared to scenes prior.
Audio:
Audio Levels From studying a course in Music BTEC level 3 I have a vast
knowledge in sound engineering. This will benefit me as I will be able to take
various factors such as distance and surrounding into consideration in order
to get the best possible outcome.
Voiceover Where each part is placed during visuals is important as it will
dictate how much of an impact it has towards our target audience. With much
consideration I will be able to do this effectively.
