La base manufacturera de la industria aeroespacial instalada en

el Baja California, agrupa actualmente cerca de 50 plantas,
desde grandes firmas transnacionales como Honeywell,
Goodrich e Eaton Aerospace, solo por mencionar algunas, as
como de pequeos y medianos subcontratistas que tienen
capacidad de manufacturar rdenes de produccin a la medida.
Cerca del 90% de las plantas en este sector son de inversin de
origen extranjera, principalmente capital estadounidense.
La ciudad de Tijuana concentra el 49% de operaciones, seguido
de Mexicali con el 34% y el resto se distribuye en los otros
municipios del Estado.
The manufacturing base of the aerospace industry in Baja
California, groups at present close to 50 plants, from large
transnational firms as they the case of Honeywell, Goodrich and
Eaton Aerospace only by mentioning some, as well as small and
medium subcontractors with custom-made production capacity.

Around 90% of the investments in the establishments are foreign origin, mostly American capital.
The city of Tijuana concentrates 49% of its operations, followed by Mexicali with 34% and the remainder is distributed in the
other municipalities of the State.

En su conjunto las actividades de esta industria aportan al

mercado de trabajo regional ms de 12,600 empleos directos y
en importante consideracin indirectos a travs de su
proveedura en las ramas de: partes metlicas, plsticos,
empaque, transporte y servicios logsticos, as como otras
operaciones de apoyo.
Del empleo total del sector, un 44% se genera en el municipio
de Tijuana y un equivalente 44% en Mexicali capital del Estado,
el 12% restante se distribuye en las ciudades de Ensenada y
Tecate.
As an aggregate the activity of this industry contributes to the
regional labor market more than 12,600 direct jobs and in
important amount of indirect jobs through their supply base in
fields such as: metallic parts, plastics, packaging, transportation
and logistics services, as well as other support operations.
Of the total employment of this sector, 44% is generated in the municipality of Tijuana and equivalent 44% in Mexicali capital of
the State, and the remaining 12% is distributed among the cities of Ensenada and Tecate.

Actualmente Baja California repunta a nivel pas con el mayor
nmero de empresas pertenecientes a la industria aeroespacial;
la fabricacin, ensamble de partes para avin, as como el
diseo de interiores de aeronaves, servicios y reparaciones son
actividades que se desarrollan.

number of establishments belonging to the aerospace industry,
the production and assembly of airplanes parts, as well as the
interior design, services and repairs are activities that develop in
the State.

Durante los ltimos 5 aos la evolucin de la industria

aeroespacial ha presentado una tendencia creciente en la
entidad en trminos de estadsticas de establecimientos y
empleo.
Este crecimiento se debi a la ampliacin de las
operaciones existentes y nuevas inversiones promovidas
por la cercana al mercado estadounidense y las
capacidades de manufactura que se han desarrollado en
Baja California, basado en la actividad de la industria
electrnica y automotriz lo que ha promovido el
surgimiento de capacidades especializadas como ejemplo
en procesos de metalmecnica y plsticos clave para
dichas ventajas.
El comportamiento del empleo durante el 2009 present una ligera disminucin al igual que otros sectores en la entidad
principalmente por la contraccin de la economa americana, principal demandante de los partes y componentes para este
sector, cobrando nuevo impulso en el 2010.
During the last 5 years the evolution of the aerospace industry has had a growth trend in the state in terms of the statistics of
establishments and labor.
This growth its due to the enlargement of the existing operations and new investments promoted by the proximity to the
American market and the capacities of manufacture that have developed in Baja California, based on the activity of the
automotive and electronic industry what has promoted the rise of specialized capacities as an example, in processes of metal
mechanic and plastic key factors for this advantage
The behavior of the employment during the 2009 present a light decrease just like other sectors in the State, principally by the
contraction of the U.S. economy, main consumer of the parts and components for this sector, taking a new push during 2010.

Actualmente los grandes fabricantes aeroespaciales estn tomando un enfoque

ms estratgico como integradores de sistemas, dejando otros aspectos como la
ingeniera y manufactura a la subcontratacin. Lo que les permitir aumentar la
diversidad de sus productos y portafolios, creando nuevos y exitosos modelos de
negocio. Se prev que incrementen su demanda en sistemas para el
entretenimiento en vuelo, conectores elctricos, as como en modificaciones y
mejoras en los interiores de las cabinas del avin.
Esto se presenta como una oportunidad para las compaas locales quienes
actualmente producen estos componentes contando adems con las condiciones
para el crecimiento y desarrollo de esta industria; una masa crtica de
profesionistas y tcnicos con experiencia y conocimientos de los altos estndares
y regulaciones que esta industria presenta, as como a una excelente ubicacin
geogrfica la sitan como un destino atractivo para la inversin.
At present the large airplanes manufacturers are taking a more strategic focus becoming systems integrators and leaving others
aspects like engineering and manufacturing to the outsourcing. This will permit them to enlarge the diversity of its products and
their portfolios, creating new and successful business models. Its expected increase in their demand in electrical connectors, inflight entertainment systems, as well as in modifications and improvements in the airplane cabin interiors.
This is an opportunity to the local companies who already manufacture these components, also having the conditions for growth
and development of this industry and the availability of a critical mass of professionals and technicians with experience and
knowledge of the high quality standards and regulations of this industry, as well as an excellent geographical location, placing it
as an attractive destination for investment.
