FLOW GUARD L
Applications

Flow Guard L is a reactive, water-based cementing preflush designed to reduce loss of fluids to permeable and/
or lost circulation zones. Additionally, the surface active characteristics of Flow Guard L make it ideally suited for
use as a preflush in primary cementing applications. Flow Guard L treatments are typically applied by pumping it
sequentially with CaCI brine, water spacers and cement.
Examples include:
1. Flow Guard 1 - Water Spacer - Cement Slurry
2. CaCI Brine - Water Spacer - Flow Guard L
3. CaCI Brine - Water Spacer - Flow Guard L - Water Spacer - Cement Slurry

Features
Ease of Mixing
Viscosity remains low while mixing and pumping.
Thermal Stability
Temperature has only a minimal effect on the performance of Flow Guard L.
Versatility
Useful in a variety of downhole applications and environments.
Cement Bond
Water-wets downhole surfaces for better cement bonding.
Variable Density
Can be mixed at densities ranging from 9.75 lbm/gal (1168 kg/m) to 13.0 lbm/gal (1558 kg/m).

Benefits
Effective in combating lost circulation problems due to high formation permeability or fractured/unconsolidated
zones.
Reduces the permeability of thief zones up to 80% when used in conjunction with cement and as much as 100%
when used with 20-30% CaCI solutions. A 90% reduction in permeability is achieved when a 10% CaCI
solution is pumped ahead of the FLow Guard L, followed by a cement slurry.
Used successfuly to shut off water zones.
Well-suited for use as a low-viscosity, bond-enhancing preflush.
Forms a permanent gel when mixed with a calcium source.
