To Whom It May Concern:

It is with great pleasure and honor that I am writing this letter of
recommendation for Joseph Alvarez. In the past four years, I have gotten to know and
worked closely with Joseph. I previously taught Joseph for my CAHSEE Prep
(mathematics and English standards) and AVID/seminar courses since his sophomore
year. In addition, I have worked closely with Joseph in The College Initiative Program,
a college and career preparatory program. Based on my experience working with
Joseph, I can describe him as a creative, collaborative, mature individual who embodies
the qualities of drive and determination needed to be successful in the 21st century.
In Joseph, I have witnessed an uncanny drive to fulfill and accomplish his dreams
and goals. While working closely with Joseph during his sophomore year, he stood out
as someone who is determined and ready to take advantage of the resources available to
him to be successful. Since his freshmen year, Joseph has placed on our Principals
honor roll because of his hard work and diligence. He has also been concurrently
enrolled in Santa Ana Community College and University of California, Irvine to take
college-level courses; this is a feat that only a small percentage of our high school
students are able to achieve in our community. Despite coming from a low-income
community, Joseph has proven that no dream or goal is too big to accomplish.
Finishing his senior year, Joseph has maintained a 4.14 GPA; this reflects his
commitment to his academics and dreams of achieving a higher education degree,
despite barriers he may have encountered and being committed to community service
and working a part-time job. Joseph is also part of a cohort of 24 seniors in our school
that is a part of the College Initiative Program. He has completed mini-lessons
revolving around college and career prep and completed study hours covering ACT
and SAT prep. I witnessed Josephs ambition in maximizing his resources at our school
to better prepare himself for college and eventually, a career that he would be most
happy in. Academically, Joseph has managed to be in the top 5% of the senior class.
Joseph has demonstrated his commitment and leadership to his passions. He has
been a member of a leadership program hosted by one of our communitys political
leaders. In addition, Joseph has proven to be a responsible individual who has been
trusted by multiple employers to work for their organization. He has worked at
McDonalds since his junior year and is currently on track to get a promotion as a crew
trainer. It is of no surprise to me, as he is someone who is very respectful, which results
in him being able to have honest, positive relationships with anyone he encounters in
life. His dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to his school work, community
service and paid-work reflects the devoted individual that Joseph embodies.

The academics at NOVA Academy Early College High School encourage students
to master all their coursework material. Despite these high standards, Joseph h
as been
successful and has prioritized his education to earn his high school diploma and earn
college credit. I am immensely proud to have been his teacher and mentor and I am
confident that will he continue to accomplish many more milestones in his college and
career.
