For smaller vehicles an anodised aluminium framework is
used the size of which is dependent on the range of members to be inspected. For larger vehicles a more robust framework is required typically manufactured from double stainless steel Unistrut.
Attachment :
It may be necessary to manufacture specific mounting
brackets or skids depending on the vehicle used. Therefore it is advisable to consult Tracerco prior to an inspection to discuss mounting requirements. Where vehicles are fitted with a manipulator it may be possible to utilise this facility to deploy the FMD yoke.
Weight :
A typical framework would have a total weight of
approximately 9.5kg out of water (approximately 4kg in water). This will vary depending on the size of frame required for the inspection.
Connections :
Hard Wired system (See Fig 1)
The system requires the use of a screened twisted pair of wires or a co-axial cable within the vehicle umbilical. As the subsea radiation detector is fitted with an Impulse 7 pin connector Tracerco provide a flying lead that is terminated in an Impulse plug with colour coded green back moulding. This requires splicing into a lead terminated with the relevant connector to plug into the subsea junction box on the vehicle. Fibre Optic / RS485 system (See Fig 2) A 24 volt DC supply is required to power Tracerco subsea units from the ROV. The system requires the use of a screen twisted pair for RS 485 transmissions or a Fibre Optic cable for fibre optic use. The subsea radiation detector is connected to the ROV via a single channel pod supplied by Tracerco, the output of this pod is connected by a 10 way impulse flying lead. This requires splicing into a lead terminated with the relevant connector to plug into the subsea junction box on the vehicle.
It should be noted that Tracerco require an RS232 output
in the ROV control cabin for connection to our lap-top computer. Power :
The system requires a 240/110 volt AC supply In the
ROV control cabin. The system surface control unit, a lap-top computer and a printer will be run off this supply with a maximum power requirement not exceeding 200VA. A 24 volt DC supply is required to power Tracerco subsea units from the ROV where fibre / 485 is utilised.
Launch :
The radioactive source should be loaded immediately
prior to launch, however this operation should not be carried out over open sea.
Approval :
The GammaScan technique has been approved by
Lloyds Register when operated by qualified Tracerco engineers. Tracerco operates a Quality Management System that is approved to ISO 9001.
Pressure ratings :
All GammaScan subsea radiation detectors are tested to
