I see a See, think and

can give students an opportunity to learn through
observations, interpretations and posting questions. Students can gain
insights, problem solve
and develop curiosity
throughout physical education class.
I see a game called Partner Tag. During class
this was a great game.
We used body movements for rock, paper and
scissors. I never seen
body movements for
rock, paper, scissors, Afterwards, when we
tagged our partner we
had to do rock, paper,
scissors. The person that
won had to do jumping
jacks.

Also, I did not know how
to properly move on the
court. I felt as if a lot of
students in the classroom
passed the ball to their
friends on the team. I was
intimidated by students
who knew how to play and
this made me feel as if I
wasnt good at physical

dislike physical education.
As a future educator, I want
to teach students the skills
that they need in order to
play basketball or football.
For example, participating
in games such as Chuck
the Chicken because this
can help with team
building, movement,
coordination and
collaboration.
Something that I found
extremely meaningful

is the Partner Tag and

game. I really like that

jacks. This makes it motivating for students because

it demonstrates that the
person who loses does not
have to do jumping jacks.
This motivates students to
participate in physical education because they typically aim to win in games.
If they win then they have
to do jumping jacks which
is a great strategy that I
plan to use as a future educator.
I really like the strategy
that was introduced in
order to have students get
into teams. For instance,
place both of your
hands on top of each other. If your right thumb is
on top go to the right side
of the gym. If you left
thumb is on top go to the
left side of the gym.
This is a very easy way
to get students into
teams. During my experience of teaching physical education during my
grade 6/7 practicum. I
struggled with getting the
students into teams
quickly during basketball. I used a lesson plan
from the OPHEA website. However, I didnt
realize that getting the
students into teams could
be time consuming if it is
not planned and if I don't
have an effective strategy.

I wasn't sure what would

be a good way to do this. I
found that getting the students into teams was difficult because it took so
much time and the students
would move because they
want to be in their friends
team. However, I plan to
integrate strategy next time
when creating teams in
physical education class. It
makes it much faster and
easier.

Course Reading Connection: The Ontario curriculum health and physical education
document outlines that students will develop physical literacy . This is, Individuals
who are physically literate move with competence and confidence in a wide variety of
physical activities in multiple environments that benefit the healthy development of the
whole person (The Ontario Health, 2015, p.7). This made me recognize through the
game that we played in class called Chuck the chicken and Partner tag. If I implement these games into my classroom it can promote physical literacy. This encourages
students to apply different forms of movement in a confident and creative way. Also, it
encourages students to make healthy and active choices in the classroom. I realized that
this can be done throughout class games because students can demonstrate active participation by being fully engaged in the game. Additionally, students can demonstrate
movement skills and concepts throughout the game, for instance, students can show
their ready position when playing different games in order to move quickly on the
court. The students can demonstrate movements such as running. During my practicum
experience, I was given an opportunity to teach grade 6/7 invasion games. While teaching these games I completely forgot to suggest to students that they should get into a
ready position in order to easily move on the court. During my future teaching practice I will use the ready position in order to allow students to get into a position that
can allow them to move easily. This will promote physical literacy because the students will be aware of their environment and master movement skills within their surroundings in a confident way. Based on the curriculum, it mentioned that students will
build both movement skills and movement strategies which aligns with movement competence (The Ontario Health, 2015). Skills that need to be taught is stability, locomotion, and manipulation. Concepts that need to be taught is body awareness, spatial
awareness, effort awareness and relationship. I realized that it is critical to give students
an opportunity to learn these skills and strategies through games. Instead of playing
real sports such as basketball or soccer. Teachers need to teach students skills such as

how to turn, bend, twist or balance. Also, teachers need to teach travelling skills such as
walking and running; and manipulation skills such as throwing, catching and dribbling.
This can prepare students for playing a real game of basketball. However, without these
skills being taught individually to students, they will not be able to master these skills
throughout the game of basketball in the future.
