MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL

"It can happen. It does happen.

But it can't happen if you quit." Lauren Dane.

We are what we repeatedly do.

Excellence then is not an act, but a habit. Aristotle

It gives me immense pleasure to pen a few words for our e-bulletin. At the onset I would like to thank the
last years editors and congratulate the newly selected editors for the current year.
Our first consideration is always in the best interest of the students. Our goal is to promote academic
excellence and continuous improvement.
I believe that excellence in education is aided by creating a learning environment in which all learners are
supported in maximizing their potential and talents. Education needs to focus on personalized learning
and instruction, while promoting an education system that is impartial, universally accessible, and meeting
the needs of all students.
It is of paramount importance that our learners have sufficient motivation and encouragement in order to
achieve their aims. We are all very proud of you, our students, and your accomplishments and look
forward to watching as you put your mark on the profession in the years ahead.
The call of the time is to progress, not merely to move ahead. Our progressive Management is looking
forward and wants our Institute to flourish as a Post Graduate Institute of Excellence. Steps are taken in
this direction and fruits of these efforts will be received by our students in the near future. Our Teachers
are committed and dedicated for the development of the institution by imparting their knowledge and play
the role of facilitator as well as role model to our students.
The Pharmacy profession is thriving with a multitude of possibilities, opportunities and positive
challenges. At Guru Nanak Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, our focus is on holistic
needs of our students.
I am confident that the students of GNIPST will recognize all the possibilities, take full advantage of the
opportunities and meet the challenges with purpose and determination.
Excellence in Education is not a final destination, it is a continuous walk. I welcome you to join us on
this path.
My best wishes to all.
Dr. A. Sengupta

Wilbur and Orville Wright

Wilbur and Orville Wright established a marvelous legacy in the
history of world, alongside the greatest American inventors, with
the invention of the first successful, fully powered and heavierthan-air flying machine. The airplane, which was created in
Dayton, Ohio and made operational at Kitty Hawk, North
Carolina, on December 17, 1903, virtually kicked off the aerial age.
The invention is considered as one of the most important events in
the 20th century.
Early Life:
The Wright brothers belonged to the deep mid-western America.
Various generations on both sides of the family had been erstwhile
colonists on the Ohio and Indiana frontier. Milton Wright, the
dad, was an itinerant minister, who served as a bishop in the
Church of the United Brethren in Christ. His job meant that the
family saw many church posts across the place. Susan, the mom,
had been a member of the United Brethren, and an intelligent, shy
person.
Contributions and Legacy:
The Wrights brothers began experimenting in aeronautics in 1899
as they mastered their skills by 1905. In these six years, with
brilliant originality, they determined the necessary elements of the
problem, conceptualized creative technical solutions, and created
practical mechanical design tools with constituents that resulted
in an executable aircraft. The effors meant much more than merely
coaxing a machine off the ground.

They laid down the fundamental principles of aircraft design that

are still relevant to this day. After introducing the invention to the
public in the United States and Europe in 1908, they gained
international fame and recognition. The Wright Company started
manufacturing airplanes for sale and created wealth that far
exceeded
anybodys
imaginations.
The
contemporary
experimenters and aviators responsively overtook and surpassed
their designs, but it was Wilbur and Orville Wright who made the
landmark discovery that made them immortal in history.
Air transportation and military aviation have had an
indeterminable economic, geopolitical, and cultural impact in the
entire world.
Personal Life and Death:
The Wright brothers never got married. Wilbur Wright died of
typhoid. He was only 45 years old. Orville Wright died of a heart
attack at 77.

Nanoparticles hitchhiking their way along strands

of hair: (27th January, 2017)

In shampoo ads, hair always looks like a shiny, smooth surface. But
for physicists peering into microscopes, the hair surface looks
much more rugged, as it is made of saw-tooth, ratchet-like scales.
In a new theoretical study scientists have demonstrated that
massaging hair can help to apply drug treatment -- encapsulated in
nanoparticles trapped in the channels formed around individual
hairs -- to the hair roots.

The cane toad, which overran Australia when introduced there,

and Panama's iconic, endangered golden frog both belong to the
family Bufonidae. Researchers combed through many research

members of this amphibian family well known to practitioners of
folk medicine. This is a first step toward the identification of new
pharmaceuticals from amphibians at a time when human diseases
are becoming alarmingly antibiotic resistant.

FDA confirms elevated levels of belladonna in

certain homeopathic teething products

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that its

laboratory analysis found inconsistent amounts of belladonna, a
toxic substance, in certain homeopathic teething tablets,
sometimes far exceeding the amount claimed on the label. The
agency is warning consumers that homeopathic teething tablets
containing belladonna pose an unnecessary risk to infants and
children and urges consumers not to use these products.

In light of these findings, the FDA contacted Standard

Homeopathic Company in Los Angeles, the manufacturer of
Hylands homeopathic teething products, regarding a recall of its
homeopathic teething tablet products labeled as containing
belladonna, in order to protect consumers from inconsistent levels
of belladonna. At this time, the company has not agreed to conduct
a recall. The FDA recommends that consumers stop using these
products marketed by Hylands immediately and dispose of any in
their possession. In November 2016, Raritan Pharmaceuticals (East
Brunswick, New Jersey) recalled three belladonna-containing
homeopathic products, two of which were marketed by CVS.
The bodys response to belladonna in children under two years of
age is unpredictable and puts them at unnecessary risk, said Janet
Woodcock, M.D., director of the FDAs Center for Drug Evaluation
and Research. We recommend that parents and caregivers not
give these homeopathic teething tablets to children and seek
advice from their health care professional for safe alternatives.
Homeopathic teething products have not been evaluated or
approved by the FDA for safety or effectiveness. The agency is
unaware of any proven health benefit of the products, which are
labeled to relieve teething symptoms in children. In September
2016, the FDA warned against the use of these products after
receiving adverse event reports.
Consumers should seek medical care immediately if their child
experiences seizures, difficulty breathing, lethargy, excessive
sleepiness, muscle weakness, skin flushing, constipation, difficulty
urinating, or agitation after using homeopathic teething products.
The FDA encourages health care professionals and consumers to
report adverse events or quality problems experienced with the
use of homeopathic teething products to the FDAs MedWatch

The FDA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and

Human Services, protects the public health by assuring the safety,
effectiveness, security of human and veterinary drugs, vaccines and
other biological products for human use, and medical devices. The
Agency is also responsible for the safety and security of our
nations food supply, cosmetics, dietary supplements, products
that give off electronic radiation, and for regulating tobacco
products.
