RESPONSIBILITIES OF CHILDREN AND PARENTS TOWARDS EACH OTHER:

Parents to their Children:


1.

To give their children the necessary food, clothing and shelter.

2.

To give them good example.

3.

To provide a truly Catholic home for them.

4.

To have them baptized as soon as possible after birth.

5.

To see that they go to Confession, receive Holy Communion and receive Confirmation.

6.

To teach them to pray.

7.

To see that they go to Mass every Sunday and on the six Holy Days.

8.

To see that on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent they abstain from meat altogether and
that on the other Fridays of the year they refrain from meat or perform a comparable penance.

9.

To send them to a Catholic school.

10.

To insist that they marry in the Catholic Church.

11.

To give them the Christian attitude on marriage and having children.

12.

To prepare them for marriage.

13.

To teach them the facts on sex.

14.

To protect them from sin, particularly sins of impurity.

15.

To teach them the virtues of honesty, obedience, truthfulness, purity, and modesty in dress.

16.

To teach them respect for the rights and property of others.

17.

To teach them respect for all lawful authority.

18.

To give them wholesome recreation and keep them from evil companions.

19.

To encourage a child's desire to be a priest, a brother or sister.

Children to Parents:

1.

Children have the duty of honoring and respecting father and mother.

2.

Children have the duty of obeying father and mother.

3.

Children have the duty of listening to the counsel of father and mother.

4.

Children have the duty of caring for father and mother in their old age.

Where there have been failure and breaches, children have the duty of understanding and
forgiving father and mother
6. Children have a duty to love their parents and be thankful to them whenever they provide them with
what they want.
