We are delighted that 94% of our

MBA students in 2016 secured
employment within three months of
graduating, which is testament to
their qualities, attributes and flexibility
in a moving market. Meanwhile, 25
students chose to start their own
businesses or were self-employed.
All contribute to the School having a
profound impact on the way the world
does business.
Our students continue to seek an
increasingly diverse range of career
choices. As a result the number of
companies hiring graduating students
reached 185, which is 30% higher
than in 2014 and 5% higher than in
2015.
Students sector choices remained
broadly stable. 23% of graduates
took roles in Technology, Media &
Telecoms, continuing the recent
trend towards that sector. Consulting
remains the most popular sector,
accounting for one third of graduates.
This is closely followed by Finance,
which attracted 25% of our students
a slight drop from 27% in 2015.
The buy-side area of finance private
equity/venture capital and investment
management continued to show
strength and accounted for 14% of
graduates employed post-MBA.

The employment rate is calculated in

compliance with MBA Career Services
and Employer Alliance (MBA CSEA)
reportingstandards.
* For more information on international
dollars, see footnote on p6.

London Business School MBA Employment Report 2016

The majority of graduates cite our

London location when asked why
they join the School and many take
roles here. At the same time, we
remain unique among business
schools in balancing this with nearly
half of students going to pursue
careers globally. The biggest change
since 2015 is that the number of
graduates taking jobs in Europe
(excluding the UK) has climbed from
13% to 16%.
The mean base salary rose to
77,693 ($121,295 in international
dollars*) this year. There was a more
significant rise in other guaranteed
compensation due to higher signingon bonuses in the consulting sector
and an increase in the number of
students going in to the hedge fund
sector, which typically puts a stronger
emphasis on bonus elements of
compensation.
This report would not be possible
without the employers who not only
trust us with their recruitment efforts,
but share market insights that help
drive our innovative curriculum. So
thank you to them we look forward
to another great year ahead.

helped me a
lot. Coming
from an
atypical
background
I needed some help to work
out how to translate my
skillset so that employers
could see my full potential.
The mixture of workshops,
one-on-one coaching and
interview preparation meant
I had tailored support that
ultimately enabled me to
move into the role that Im
in today.
