Looking Forward
I was part of the Clark County School District's ARL (Alternate Route to Licensure)
program which takes people with non-teaching degree puts them in a five week course and then
allows them to take charge of their own classroom! They plan out the first year of professional
development for you during the first year, teachers must participate in 60 hours of teacher lead
collaboration or workshops that focus on topics that first year teachers would benefit from that
include but are not limited to classroom management, book keeping, and other ethical and legal
issues. When I first walked into my classroom, I lacked experience and I wanted to balance my
inexperience with knowledge. I started my masters degree in Secondary Education right away.
During the second year, I will be focusing in areas that I struggled with as a new and
inexperienced teacher. Areas such as classroom management and ELL training. I work at Rancho
High School, a diverse school with over a 70% Hispanic population. I am fortunate enough to
bilingual in the Spanish language. However, being able to speak Spanish, and teach Spanish
speaking students are two completely different things.
On the third year, I want to focus on the expanding my teaching portfolio by enrolling on
Clark County School Districts blended classroom online certificate program which consist of 5
courses that range from introduction to blended classroom, google sites, and finally building a
portfolio to be submitted for graduation. Being a Math Teacher, I want to go into my fourth year
focusing on math related workshops and conferences such as the annual AMCA conferences
hosted in local high schools around the district. This type of workshops is based on high school
math classes, and thus are one of the most relevant courses to take part into. At the end of the 5
year plan, I want to focus on transiting into the administration part of the school system. CCSD
has a credential course that needs to be taken on top of the masters degree. In working in these

areas of focus, I will gain additional knowledge to better support all students. As I learn and
master additional strategies through the professional learning opportunities and incorporate
these strategies into my instruction, I will become more effective in the classroom to support all
students.
