welcome letter
welcome. Each one of you could tell your own unique tale of how
you came to Edge Project 2016. The plot of your story is divine,
the details are intricate, and though your story may sound vastly
different from those of others, we all have the joy of sharing one
chapter together in the town of Altea-Alicante, Spain.
We are thrilled you are a part of this summers team. We look
forward to all that will unfold in the season ahead together. May you
be blessed as you prepare yourself for our time together in Spain,
and may you engage and commit fully to each and every moment
the Father has designed for you to experience this summer. He will
do a great work in your life, our team, and His harvest fields that will
prove fruitful for years to come.
We trust the Lord has laid a solid foundation in your life for all
He wants to do in and through you in the coming months. And,
at the same time, we anticipate He will build up and solidify the
foundations of your identity, your heart, your faith, your creativity,
and your ability to impact others around you as you press in to all the
great things He is inviting you to experience with Edge Project.
May the Father give you eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to
understand. May you have grace as you engage the community of
Altea. May you have joy as you experience the Fathers love for you.
May you be filled to the fullest measure of good as you explore your
heart, others, and this world in which we live. May you know the
beauty of the Kingdom as you share in life and work and walk in
your identity as sons and daughters of a very good King. May you
embrace the culture and create expressions of art that define the
presence of God within you. Be blessed. Live in your blessing to be a
blessing, everywhere you step.
We look forward to watching how He writes the next chapter of
your story.

Justin Gerry
From: Maui, HI
Executive Director & Spiritual Care, Edge Project 2016
Justins life has been marked with crossing cultural boundaries,
including over 14 years of cross-cultural ministry experience.
He grew up on the island of Maui in Hawaii, a true melting pot
of cultures. It was there he gave his life to Christ at 12 years old
and also gained extensive experience in the performing arts.
After graduating from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a
bachelors in broadcast journalism, he moved to Europe to serve
in full-time ministry. He immersed himself in the language and
culture and planted a Calvary Chapel church in Slovenia. While
pastoring there he met his wife, Erin, while she was attending
Bible college in Hungary. Justin and Erin navigated through
married life on the mission field and successfully handed over
the Slovenian church to national leaders in 2012.
At that time they re-entered American culture and began their
newest cross-cultural ministry...as public high school teachers
in rural Oklahoma, Erins home state. They currently minister
to their students and in a home fellowship. In their free time
they enjoy staying fit, refinishing old furniture, and performing
in community theater. This summer marks Justins fifth time
serving at Edge Project in Altea and he currently serves on the
Board of Directors of Edge Project.
Lucas Chadwick
From: Snohomish, Washington
Spiritual Care Intern
Lucas is a recent college graduate. In 2011 Lucas began his time
at Biola University in La Mirada, California, where he studied
for 4 years. While at Biola, Lucas was involved in several extracurricular activities and student ministries, including a year
of varsity soccer. He also quickly discovered his deep love for
Scripture, which led to the development of his scribe project,
his personal endeavor to copy the entire Bible by hand into a
large journal.
Prior to his graduation in 2015, Lucas became involved in SMU
-- Biolas student missionary program. Last summer he co-led a
team of fellow students to partner with Edge Project 2015. After
his month in Spain, Lucas was convinced of his calling for the
mission field and has been preparing to return ever since.
Lucas currently lives in Washington State with his family where
he temporarily works at a homeless shelter for at-risk youth. He
will be returning to Altea this summer with Edge as an intern in
pastoral care.
Marlita Hill
From: Los Angeles, California
Director of Dance
Marlita Hill is the Artistic Director/Choreographer for
Speak Hill Dance Project, started in May 2014. Marlita is
very passionate about the intersection of dance and faith. Her
introduction to dance was through an LA-based Christian
dance company. Her involvement in the dance ministry
community spans 20 years as a dancer, teacher, choreographer,
author, and mentor.
She holds a BFA in Dance Performance with K-12 Certification
from Towson University, Towson, MD, and has authored
two books on dance and ministryin her Dancers! Assume
the Position series. The first book focuses on dance in
congregational worship, and the second focuses on Christian
dancers with careers in commercial/entertainment, concert,
academic, and community contexts.
Her latest project is the Kingdom Artists Initiative, a network
of artists supporting each other in creating art and managing
careers according to Kingdom principles. In 2009, Hill cofounded the dance department at the Ramon C. Cortines
School for the Visual and Performing Arts, in downtown Los
Angeles, where she teaches tap, modern, and choreography.
She is the Creator/Curator of The Choreography Clinic, a blog
that houses dialogue among dance makers about making dance
(choreoclinic.com). Her choreography has been presented
at venues including ARC Pasadena, Lineage Performing
Arts Center, Diavolo, Towson University, Kennedy Centers
Millennium Stage (in collaboration with VT Dance), Clarice
Smith Performing Arts Center (MD), and Carpenter Center
Performing Arts. Check out her website at marlitahill.com
Arianna Yates
From: San Pedro, California
Director of Hospitality and Events Coordinator
Arianna (numero dos!) has a heart for diverse populations and is
inclusive by nature. As a biracial, SoCal native nothing makes her
happier then flip flops, the ocean breeze, and soaking up the sunshine!
As an aspiring professional in the world of psychology and education
she is currently pursuing her masters in clinical psychology at
Pepperdine University. She hopes to use her degree to work in any
number of areas from assisting young people in the high school/
college transition process to cultural diversity building to aiding
women who have been victims of human trafficking to assisting
with inner-city ministry education.
She loves to paint pictures, but not in the conventional way with
acrylics and brushes. Her current job as a coordinator in the Events
and Outreach Department allows her to paint the big picture and
then find the details needed to create a purpose-driven event.
Arianna loves anything art related - from singing, dancing, and
simply entertaining with family and friends to her love for telling
untold stories and recreating them through photos, writing, and video.
Arianna is actively involved in her church and loves serving on the
connections and hosting team as well as assisting in pioneering the
college/young adult ministry with a team of passionate people at her
church in LA. You can typically find her meeting new people and
finding creative ways to feed them!
She is overjoyed to step into territory in Alicante that has been
tended to with such love and care after years of intentional
relationships and is thrilled to rest and dwell with the Lord while
loving on people. But mostly, she is excited to serve and see people
step out in faith while discovering and unfolding what the Lord
has called them to do, For in him we live, and move, and have our
being - Acts 17:28

foundations
the theme for edge project 2016 is Foundations. We look
forward to experiencing how Jesus will transform each one of us
as we allow Him to lay new foundations as only He can, to restore
and strengthen our foundations where needed, and to build His
Kingdom on the firmest of foundations using our unique gifts and
abilities to impact the world around us.
It is our desire to learn to live and share a message as Jesus intended
it to be. As part of our experience, we will use the Book of Acts in
the New Testament to get a candid look at the foundations of the
early church. As we meditate on these records in Scripture, we will
seek to reflect and mirror all that they experienced and let it guide
us in reaching out to lives cross-culturally.
Since our Edge Project experience together will last 28 days, we
will individually and corporately reflect on one chapter a day from
the Book of Acts. You will find a place to record your reflections
daily as you allow the Holy Spirit to bring the words to live and
shed light on how you can apply these things in Altea and in your
life beyond. Each day, you will reflect on three things:
-What is something that you observed, saw, or that
stood out to you from todays chapter?
-What is something you sense God wants you to do in
response to what you read today?
-What is one question or prayer you have as a result
from todays chapter?
Record your responses on the following pages. You will also find
a place to take notes during our corporate times of reflection and
conversation on some of the foundational lessons and principles
for life and ministry as seen in the Book of Acts.
