This annual event is staged on 200 acres, with 80 acres designated for camping
in the beautiful Hamlet of Mariaville, NY. The Harley Rendezvous is, in my opinion,
the best of ALL New York State motorcycle rallies and definitely one of the best
adult motorcycle rallies in the US. Adult camping rallies bring in more bikers than
motorcycle enthusiasts, and the “Vous” is always a great time with real bikers.
No attitudes, no weapons, no bullshit, but plenty of bikes, beer and boobs. Just
fun, fun, fun... with a little public nudity and drunken antics (perhaps a small
understatement here... if you ever went... you would understand). There are rules
to follow, however, but they are nothing more than you would expect from a party
at your own house. The top rule being: “RESPECT”... respect the staff, each
other, and the environment. If you’ve never been to Harley Rendezvous you’ve
been missing out on a party of a lifetime. But as far as I can see this is one of
the greatest times of the year and will be here each and every year. Too much
goes on with the scheduled events, vendors, bands, bikes shows and more than
I could possible give justice to in words... so after a little history lesson, I will let
some pictures do the talking... and hope to see you at Harley Rendezvous 2011.
Thunder Roads New York is proud to be the home state of such a great REAL biker
rally. Others make the annual pilgrimage from all over the US to get to the “Vous”.
Thank you, Frank, Antoinette, and all the staff for your hospitality.

History:
In 1979 the first Harley Rendezvous founded by: Kemp O’Connell was held at
the Washington County Fairgrounds in Greenwich, NY. The ‘84 ‘Vous” was held
at Frosty Acres, just down the road. Later that year Kemp acquired the roughly
two hundred acres that would become Indian Lookout Country Club1142 Batter
Street, Pattersonville, NY, 12137; The Rendezvous found a permanent home and
has been there since. 1988 saw the first Harley rendezvous Video, which has
not only a lot of entertainment, but a lot of background. Through the late ‘80s and
early ‘90s, there were some serious doubts about the future of the event. Harley
filed for trademark infringement back in ‘92 or ‘93 for the unauthorized use of the
“Harley” name. In 1999 the case was “settled,” because it’s still called the Harley
Rendezvous, although they do welcome all kinds of bikes.
In 1994, an era came to an end. the man who started the “Vous”: Kemp
O’Connell (1953-1994) departed us and is now riding and partying with the angels.
Faith in one man’s idea, his dream of an event where all bikers of all persuasions
could come together and party their asses off every year, year after year. Faith in
his dream of a place where all would be welcome, whether long-time attendees
or “Vous-gins” (the popular contraction of “rendez-Vous vir-gin”) whether Staff or
attendee, regardless of club or association affiliation, politics, religion, or anything
else, as long as they all held to the One Rule: “Respect.”
The Rendezvous –and all the peculiar and particular responsibilities that
entailed—was handed off to Frank Potter and, because this is a family affair, it
involved his wife, Antoinette, and his sons, Rick and Bill and, subsequently, their
wives and children. The official website, harleyrendezvous.com, was registered in

1 Never allow the engine to lug. Anytime you hear RPM’s drop or run at slower city riding
speeds, drop down a gear or two and allow the engine to spin freely.
2 Do not allow the engine to idle for any excessive length of time. Avoid stop and go traffic
situations. Lack of airflow to the engine causes uneven heating and possible
overheating, causing rapid excessive wear. See note on proper engine warm up
below.
3 Always use a good grade of gasoline. Premium only, no alcohol, 91 grade octane or
higher.
4. Avoid subjecting new engine to excessively high engine RPM’s. The first 500 miles or
so should be on the easy side of normal (around 4,500 max.) 3,000 rpm is best cruise
speed. 3,500 rpm for Dressers or trailer towing. No trailer towing on new engines. This
excludes engines that have been broke in on the dyno.
5 Have the engine professionally serviced, checked and tuned between 500 and 1,000
miles.
6 For all Pre-Evolution engines. Occasionally check head bolt and cylinder base nut
torque.
OIL RECOMMENDATIONS
1 Use only a good grade of motorcycle oil. No car oils!
2 Normal use 30o F to 95oF 20w50
3 Extreme Summer 60o F to 110o F SAE50
4 After break-in synthetic oil may be used. Lucas and Redline both offer a very good
product and are highly recommended.
5 Change engine oil frequently. Do not exceed 2,500 miles between changes. Synthetic
oil offers slightly extended drain intervals.
