Your Target
At the end of this activity, you will be keen at identifying and naming different
assessment methods used in the classroom.

Your Map
To be aware of the assessment tools that are used in the classrooms, you will find
interest in observing teachers assessment practices.
To hit your target, work your way through this steps.
Step 5: Reflect on your experience
.
Step 4: Confer with your FS teacher
your assessment list.
Step 3: Describe how each assessment
method was used, including your personal
observations.
Step 2: In your list, classify assessment methods
as to conventional and authentic/alternative.
Step 1: Observe at least three classes and make a list of
the assessment methods used by teachers.

Your Tools
As you visit schools and observe assessment practices in at least three classes,
document your observations using the activity forms provided for you in this book. For
your pen-and-paper test items, customize a table of specification, and prepare the test
material based on the prescriptions of the school where you do class observation.

Conventional Types
DESCRIPTION OF HOW ASSESSMENT METHOD
WAS USED
(Please include your personal observations and
comments below the description.)
1.Oral questioning
It is used to assessed the students learning
during discussions. As I have observed, some
students can answer right but they cant justify
or defend their answer.

2. Groupwork

It develops the cooperation of the students.

Some students work together but some dont
help and just depend on their groupmates.

3.Quiz

It is used to assess the learning of the

students after discussions. It develops the
students higher order thinking skills. From my
observation, the students are arranged away
from each other to avoid copying to their
seatmates.

Your Analysis
Was there a variety of assessment methods used by the teacher? How
relevant was/were the assessment methods used?
Yes, it is important because the students have different learning styles so the teacher must
comply with the needed by the students.
Do you think the expected students learning behaviours indicated in the
objectives were properly and appropriately assessed through those assessment methods?
I think the expected learning behaviors indicated in the objectives were properly and
appropriately assessed through the assessment method because it was thought about by
the teacher and it is the teachers job to make sure that the assessment is appropriate for
the objectives he/she wanted to be achieved by the students.

Your Reflections
Write your personal reflection of thoughts and feelings about the
importance in the use of appropriate assessment methods in the classroom, including
what students and teachers can gain from appropriate assessment tools. Share your
reflection with your FS teacher and classmates.
Assessment is very important in the teaching learning process because without it the
teachers will not be able to know if the students learned. It is also very important for the
assessment methods to be appropriate with the objectives so it will be able to achieve the
expected learning. Assessment reflects what the students have learned and also the

performance or quality of teaching of the teacher. It is very useful for the teachers to
determine the strength and weaknesses and be able to improve the students learning.
