Reflection Paper #1: ANG PINAKATAGONG LIHIM NG SIMBAHAN

As children, we were raised to be blinded to the fact that everything is not as

perfect as we all thought. In fact, we thought that every human being is happy and well,
and that magic and other fantasies are true. Just like in the video, not every street we
pass by is similar as the usual houses that we see in social media. There would always
be someone who is in the lower class and others who are in the upper class; not all of
us are as privileged as the upper class. As we progressed further in watching the video,
it taught me that there is still hope in humanity. There is still a group of people who
would save us just like what Jesus did for our sins, and that group of people is the
church.
The two basic ecclesial communities (BEC) presented in the video, Lady of
Penafrancia in Paco, Manila and Diocese of Bukidnon, embodied the great qualities one
would foster the social teachings of the Church. The first BEC shown, Lady of
Penafrancia in Paco, Manila, showed the viewers the life of informal settlers in the
slums of Paco. On the other hand, Diocese of Bukidnon tries to protect the province's
remaining forests. It is also seen that the diocese was celebrating mass together and
then after that, ate together with the parish priest. Moreoever, in the tree-planting
project, the Archbishop of Bukidnon led the priests and the faithful in an attempt to
restore the mountains of Bukidnon. The lay members of the BEC withheld the activity of
Bible sharing among each other. With all of these activities in mind, these BECs surely
represented the great role of teaching the Churchs Social Teachings.
Being a young adult, I plan to address the issues presented in the documentary
by just starting small good deeds. I know I am not financially capable myself but I
promise that when I grow up and get a job, I will have more opportunities in helping
these civilians in need and use these as a great way in aiding them. But since I am still
not in this state, I really want to start out by going small good deeds. Example of these
are being educated and preaching what I know to the ignorant, donating food to the
needy, praying for those who are deprived and volunteer in local projects and
campaigns.
In following the Catholic Social Teaching, one must proper understand and value
the human person. Next, you should be able to see the importance of being in a family
and with this ideal, you should protect it. Most especially, peace should be pursued and
the poor should be cared for. With these things in mind, I am willing to follow these
directions in able to be closer with my fellow brothers and sisters in the church, and to
God.

Ayoko na - ito ang madalas na kasabihan na maririnig mo mula sa mga estudyante sa

Miriam College High School (MCHS). Sa totoo lang, hindi lamang iyan ang masasabi naming
mag-aaral tungkol sa aming paaralan.
Ang MCHS ay kilalang isa sa mga prestihiyosong paaralan sa buong bansa kaya malinaw
na humihiling sila ng mataas na pamantayan mula sa mga mag-aaral. Inaamin ko, hindi ito
eksaherasyon.
Gayunpaman, sa lahat ng mga taon ng pag-aaral sa eskwelahan na ito, masasabi ko pa rin
na sulit pa ang lahat sa huli.
