Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship shows much more complexities than just owning a business and telling
people what to do, it has varying levels of complexity. With this job comes many duties that all
entrepreneurs have to meet. An entrepreneur does not need any prior training but success rates
grow in businesses for people who do attend school for it. An entrepreneur does not necessarily
need a college degree, the way the job pans out makes it half skill based, involving people skills,
money management, and the ability to learn from mistakes. On the other hand getting an
education for this profession can lead to many benefits, not only do the educational values help
tone one's addeptituted, it also helps to have a business planning guide to set you up for the start
of your business. Courses suggested for entrepreneurs include ones such as business and money
management, as well as a few marketing classes. Two prefered classes, sociology and
psychology, can help to understand the customer (Entrepreneurs Reference). The rest would
determine what type of business the entrepreneur hopes to create. If the entrepreneur wishes to
make a business around selling things such as technology they might want to take some courses
referring to such work. To show another example, creating a game developing company one
should take as many classes relating to this as possible, like 3d design, and programming
(Entrepreneurs Reference). Entrepreneurs have many other ways to learn other than school

Nabors 2
such as experience learned through the trade, talking to clients or customers, as well as gaining
new skill traits through employees.
Depending on what type of business the entrepreneur want to run they must make the
decision of picking a shop or headquarters to purchase as their base of operations. . The
entrepreneur would also need to pick out employees that would help produce or service, your
product or customers. One must watch over and make sure the employees do their job correctly
and efficiently. He must make sure that the right people with the correct skill set get employed
(Entrepreneurs Information). With a proper education one would have more social and mental
skills allowing them to pull of contracts or sales at a higher level than those who do not. The
entrepreneur would have the proper educational skill allowing him the knowledge how how to go
about things such as, purchasing a place of business, hiring the first employees, and obtaining the
necessary tools for the workplace (Find). The entrepreneur will also need to purchase many
other things around the store such as, shelves, display cases, end caps, and the product itself.
The items needed change depending on the scale and type of business the entrepreneur has
created.
Bobby Singleton (the Customer Service Manager at Harris Teeter Jetton Village in
Cornelius) explains management, ordinarily crucial to a business's success. He says that
management can not always about strictness. He says that It's not that I expect everyone to do a
perfect job, because everyone screws up but i have enough faith in my employees that I only
need to get directly involved with them when they are not doing there job the way it is suppose
to be done. He shows that he has enough faith in his employees, that he can go off and deal with
customers, create schedules, count money and complete various other things he must complete as

Nabors 3
part of his job without having the need of micromanage everything his workers do. Bobby
believes that people need to enjoy there job, or at least feel the as comfortable as they can that
enables them to truly work at the top of their game. As of recently he has started to use a new
tactic to see how the employees react, he now has a podium set up in front of all of his
employees while they work. He proceeds to do everything he usually does in a normal manner
but this makes his workers more aware of his presence. He calls this tactic mental morality, he
believes that with this new method it would make his workers less likely to mess up out of fear
of messing up and getting caught. This causes the employees to slack off less and work harder
because they make themselves believe that they are constantly being judged he says
(Singleton). Bobby employs a firm but gentle hand when dealing with his employees. As he
shows one must have a certain amount of faith in one's employees but without giving them
enough reason to forget exactly who gives them their paychecks.
Matthew, the owner of a popular comic shop called Parker and Baner Comics and
Games, shows the life and complexities of an Entrepreneur. His job demands many different
things of him, such as staying up late and wake up early, he works a normal amount of 14 hours
a day. He usually opens his store around eight o'clock in the morning, but does not have a set
closing time because of the type of store he runs. Then on weekend his store closes around the
time people stop coming in so on a normal weekend night around One O'clock in the morning.
He also needs a constant watch for thieves, since many would call his shop a hang out spot, his
shop stays open late which increases the theft rates. He mentions that people would not even in
the least consider this as the the start of his job. He must manage and lay faith in his employees
to the right things and do their jobs correctly. Then comes the finances he has to pay for the

Nabors 4
products which takes a significant fund out of his paycheck. His business demands wholesale so
he buys as much as he can for the lowest price. Then he sells it at competitor prices so sales can
fluctuate constantly. He also has tax to pay for the store as well as rent on the building, as well as
the employees paychecks. With all of this deduction it inflicts him with the inability to able to
hire as many people as he wishes he could causing stain on his employees during the extended
hours. The the entrepreneur must also pay for his own issues such as house family and food.
Matthew went on to say that although he made it seem as though his job many would consider
difficult, he believes that they pay off many would consider a great job to have. He gets to meet
tons of new people, to know his employees, and experience things he might not have any other
way. He says that one can think that becoming an entrepreneur has proven a difficult path, but
with the select few with the leadership, management, charismatic abilities, and those who can
always look to the future, those who can should certainly consider this a career. He explains that
it helped him mentally grow and forced him to learn more about himself and others that he didn't
even realize that he needed to know in the first place (Milburn). America, the land of
opportunity, a place of capitalism that encourages people for business creation on both big and
small scales. This proves that smaller business do struggle greatly, larger companies and more
popular brands attract the attention of more customers minimizing the amount of customers that
a smaller, lesser known business The first five years of a business many would consider the
struggle period that proves whether the business survives or fails.
Bobby and Matthew had varying ideas which only helps to prove that one may have
many ways of taking on management in entrepreneurship. Bobby works at a much bigger
franchise and has a much larger staff to manage (Singleton). Therefore his management

Nabors 5
techniques differ in comparison to Matthew who has a much smaller staff, including a much
smaller store to look after (Milburn). This proves that management techniques vary on not
only the type of store one works at, but also the size of the floor, as well as staff that count as
factors towards managing techniques.
A smaller business has a higher chance of survival through employing well versed
marketing techniques. When owning a business or company trying to create a brand that people
can recognize and feel attracted by may help with sales. If one cannot sell product or make any
form of income then their business will most definitely end in complete failure. Getting a product
or service to sell many would consider extremely important. An entrepreneur must take on many
different marketing techniques, on many different platforms (Business). These platforms can
refer to many different things such as billboards, newspapers, commercials, and the internet.
Theses platforms could also refer different electronic platforms such as computer tablet and cell
phone. When selecting the platforms the entrepreneur must also take into account for which
niche market that they would target. (Entrepreneurs Reference). For example when targeting
gamers like kids or adults, for a game the entrepreneur produced, they must take into account
where these people would most likely to come into contact with your advertisement. Good
choices for this market target music stations, television commercials, and internet banners. This
covers who and where but what about the how (Business). The entrepreneur must also
understand how to create said advertisements and how to get them out onto the platforms the
entrepreneur wants. Having a design or logo that helps identify the entrepreneur helps get
themselves out there but having proper art design and information that all translates into a
message that both informs and intrigues the customer makes it become much more difficult

Nabors 6
(Information Professionals). The problem with marketing shows that even though marketing to
a specific niche market comes off generally easy generally easy to see what appeals to a niche
market, but the ability to create something new and interesting that still attracts customers many
would consider, where it starts to get tricky.
The entrepreneur would need to make both a commercial or advertisement that must not
only show originality but also appeal to the targeted market. When making a advertisement one
must also take into account for the people outside of his target market as well. He must figure
ways to make the advertisement massively appealing to the target market but still having enough
appeal to attract others outside of it (Find). Proper marketing strategies show that one can not
show only interest put interest into a niche market, instead they must spread their horizons to
reach all audiences. . A business plan conceived on paper, powered by a great idea or invention,
enhanced by research on the size of the market and a customer profile, has great potential. said
Wendy Torrance. To truly do well at marketing one must put forth the time and effort, if one
does not enjoy their work then they can not expect to do a good job at it. They must reach all
groups while successfully covering the target (Information Technology). Marketing, a very
difficult skill to cover, has many big time entrepreneurs creating an entire division devoted to
help them cover a larger group of people. An entrepreneur must decide which marketing
techniques to employ in compensation for which type of business he wants to run. For example if
one would like to start a small business with no intentions of spreading they should only post for
local interests. however if the entrepreneur wants a business that grows quickly or one that
resemble a chain then they should have more vague advertisements. The larger business would

Nabors 7
need to spend more money on advertisements than the smaller company but if initiated correctly
the profits of larger would in comparison crush the smaller companies profit.
Entrepreneur gain many of their traits through experience. Employees also help with the
learning process, the entrepreneur might not have great skills or knowledge in computer
programing. When the entrepreneur hires a new programmer he/she must learn and improve their
skills through working with the programer. This also works the same way with impatient
customers, learning how people react when in certain moods helps a lot in the retail business
(Various). They must also have a good sense of adapting to their environment, during his job
he must deal with many different people thus the ability to react quickly and efficiently shows it
need in this area. As part of an entrepreneur's job they must often take the role of a manager,
therefore the stores upkeep would fall onto one of his many responsibilities. The placement of
items around the store helps attract customers to revisit one's store. (Entrepreneur's Reference).
In the end creativity truly shows in this aspect and will most definitely affect sails in both large
and small businesses.
The fact that suggestions and possibilities that come with entrepreneurs make it too vague
to completely predict exactly how well a small business will do (Entrepreneurs Information).
The entrepreneur shapes their company and molds how that company turns out, all based on the
entrepreneur's level of adaptability, skill over social and financial situations, and over all public
relations. The entrepreneur's job demands that they, good with people since they purchase the
products, getting the loans, good judges of character, and creativity.

Dear Mr. Alburger,

In my Pride paper I will be researching Entrepreneurship because it is a job I wish to
have when I grow with age. I want it because I can make much money from it. I like the
opportunity to help shape a society.
I will talk about business ownership and management. I will talk about how management
is important. As well as how not only are you the teacher of your business but also a student
from the people around you.
My mentor will help me with making the correct decisions as well as showing me on
correct ways of how to manage my work force. He will guide me to show how he deals with
various situations as they appear around the store. He will also tell me ways of starting and
conducting a successful business.
I have read Pine Lakes ethics guide and understand that plagiarism, either intentional or
unintentional, will result in a zero on my paper.
