Artifact Justification:

Creating and Maintaining

Effective Environments for
Student Learning
TED 690
Johnny Segovia

This is an essay that addresses and justifies the use of my artifacts to demonstrate knowledge of the
TPE domain of creating and maintaining effective environments for student learning.

The first artifact I chose to demonstrate my achievement in creating and maintaining

effective environments for student learning was an observation that I did at Canyon Crest
Academy High School. This observation was part of an assignment that I complete it during my
teaching credential process. What does observation showed me was how a teacher must use the
environment to nurture thoughtful awareness for students with special needs. At the time I did
this observation I was very new to the credential program, and it had not spent much time in a
classroom. But being in this setting showed me how the establishment of physically, socially, and
emotionally safe classrooms Fosters the expectations for academic and social behavior. Students
will act accordingly in the environment that they are placed.
The second artifact I chose to demonstrate my understanding for creating and maintaining
an effective environment for student learning was an outline of the classroom that I talk during
my student teaching process. This was an outline that I created to fulfill the need for my TPA task
for. The reason why I chose this outline was because it demonstrates how student placement in
the classroom can affect the student learning. This outline shows how the two kids identified as
special need students, one being an English language learner and the other having ADHD, were
specifically placed in the classroom. My instructional planning and instructional time always
took into consideration the placement in the environment of the students. These students were
specifically placed next to peers that could Foster and assist in their learning and also placed
within relative closeness to my desk. Although I do not spend much time at my desk during
instructional time, this students just being in front of the class and within proximity to my desk
create an environment that proved to be effective for student learning.

The last artifact I chose to demonstrate my proficiency in this demesne was a literary
review that disgusts the idea of equality of opportunity. The reason I chose this literary view as
an artifact was because it discusses how the equality of opportunity should be present in every
classroom. So the idea of this goes deeper than just the physical layout of the classroom, but
rather I believe this digs into the psyche of the environment of the classroom. In this literary
review the idea of a social economic gap that is present within our society should not be reflected
in the classroom. It is my duty as an educator to ensure that any social or economic disparities
that may be present between students in the classroom is not exponentiation it by my
instructional strategies or Student Activities. I should design lesson and learning plans that create
and maintains effective environments for student learning. The way to ensure this is to have an
environment where social and economic gaps are not readily accessible or present. This could
include, but not limited to, having the requirement of students to have access to technology that
is not provided by the school. Students will face many of these societal gaps outside of the
classroom, what this literary review to me was that they should not be faced with any of these
societal gaps inside my classroom. And it is my job as an educator to create an environment that
facilitates this.
